A breeder on another list posted this carcass of her 2.5 year old Fl. White buck that she culled because of increasing lameness to the back leg that was not responding to therapy.

I am almost certain I saw a link from here with a similar photo ... maybe parasite?

Anyway, she is desperate for information and/or treatment needed for her herd in case it is transmissible.

I couldn't see it either.

Could you ask her to join RT and post the pics here?

You have to be in the group to see it.

Wow.. that's bad.

I worked on a greyhound farm that had a dog that started to limp and they could not find anything. Later, there was a spot on the leg and they thought a spider bit him. It was found he had bone cancer. I did not see the pictures, but for some reason I thought of this dog becauase of the "lesion." To me it looked like a bruise at first.

I am still waiting for the group to approve my request!

Here are the pics, the leg, the hide, and the innards...

Were there corresponding marks on the inner surface of the leg? This seems rather unlikely, since I see almost two dozen circular lesions, which would indicate almost a dozen bites that didn't puncture the skin... but most of those wounds look evenly spaced (but overlapping), so I wonder if the dog bit the leg repeatedly?

I googled "Traumatic muscular necrosis images", but all I found was MRI imaging. If enough of the vascular system was damaged on the leg, it is possible that the white tissue died from lack of oxygen. :?

If the OP has a good relationship with a vet, perhaps they could evaluate the photos?

Poor Fred. :(

Do you know what kind of dog attacked him?

No dog attack, the "X" on hide is an explore mark to see if anything went into hide. He had lost energy and then became lame in the rear leg. They decide to put him down and he appeared to be in pain.

She is unsure of the red spots, one of her concerns. Some people suggested mosquito bites, she does live on west coast of Florida and rabbit are outside. I am not sure if that would cause those marks, she has never had marked like that on any of her other rabbits. She raises FW & ND and recently added Champagne D'Argent and Silver Fox.

Also, the inside of the hide didn't show any corresponding marks. As for the gall bladder, I see sizes like that in some of mine even as young as 4 months ... some have tiny ones compared to the others too, so don't know that is a symptom or not.

Did she bred and raise the rabbit? Could it have gotten bitten by fleas, or fire ants?

Those marks are NOT on the skin...they are on the muscle....I really don't think it is some kind of bite. I think there is more going on here than meets the eye and it needs to be sent off to a lab for testing. Gradual lameness and weird lesions makes me think of some kind of illness is at work here. I could be wrong...
