So I was curious if everyone else did the same stupid thing I do where I name my rabbits something related to their personality or life story stuff or whatever..
So my doe Butterball got her name because originally she was a he, then he started putting on a lot of weight after being let out with the other two bucks (Thank god my bucks didn't decide to fight when I'd let them outside) and her "brother" (a.k.a. her sister) well once the weight started getting packed on I named him Butterball, about a week before kindling I watched a youtube video on sexing rabbits and I sexed them myself and found out both were girls.
Harlem got her name because of the meaning of the name "bold, independent, inquisitive and interested in research. You know what you want and why you want it." and what she wants is to have babies, she loves having little babies with her. So does her mom Butterball.
The name Turtle, I found in Native American means Mother Earth, and I named my buck Papa Bear to go with it, although now looking back I should've named him Father Time..
Then I also have Rose and Dorothy from the Golden Girls, Totoro and Mai from the movie Totoro (Will have a Satski soon) I also have Mato which means Bear, and Milla which was a German witch name meaning beauty if I'm not wrong, but the three M's (Mato, Milla, Mai) are from the same litter from Harlem.

Lol nope. My rabbits are called chestnut doe, magpie doe, Ajax (because he came with that name), White doe D1...

Ok I think you get the point, I'm terribly imaginative....

I did manage to name one of my favorites Princess Zelda, and other Harley Quinn (because, you now, she's a harlequin...)

__________ Tue Feb 14, 2017 6:57 pm __________

Oh and my kids helped me name one DA Blue Fuzz. She fuzzy and broken blue lol.

all my breeders have names, and i will likely name them all even when i have 50 of them. they're my food but also sorta my pets, especially the show rabbits, y'know. i'm apparently famous for my "odd" names, but vets love me because you never have to ask 'which one was that again?' because no other animal has my pet's names ;P

N'rithaa - a word from the language used by the protoss aliens in the game starcraft that means 'little arrow.' picked it because it was cute and she's a little racy in body.

Juliet - my original mini lop does were named Chloe and Max from the game life is strange - i kinda kept the theme by naming Juliet after one of the other girls in the game who was a little bit of a b*tch and turns out that's my rabbit's personality too.

Rosette - came with that name, not sure where it came from.

Clyde - my mini lop buck who looks like a grumpy old man but is very sweet. my husband named him after his grandfather who apparently had a similar demeanor.

Adun - a protoss hero again from starcraft. the protoss race kind of worship their fallen war heroes and adun was the hero to worship for like, millennia apparently so he was a big deal. the rabbit adun is of course my husband's favourite.

Raszagal - another protoss name (i named my three original a&m composites after them because they were ~alien~ college bunnies lol.) raszagal was the protoss matriarch of a certain faction and was generally a really good leader and died a martyr. the rabbit is thus far my best producer.

Sarah - again with the starcraft theme, sarah kerrigan was a pretty prominent main character and the love interest of the protagonist of the sequel game's first expansion.

Jimmy - named after the main protagonist of starcraft II and sarah's love interest. because we're both filthy shippers :p these two are my standard rex that we bought at the same time so y'know.

Spooky - nothing deep. she's a japanese harlequin so she's halloween colours lmao

Soot - he's a little black lionhead that is so fluffy i don't know how he sees. he reminded us of the susuwatari (living soot) from the studio ghibli movies, thus the name.

i still haven't thought of names for the kits i'm keeping from my current litters, but i've been sitting on Georgie for a while so i'm gonna use it for someone....maybe one of my japanese harleqins...

my other pets have ~interesting names too apparently.

Hoxton - the dog. named after the character from the PayDay video games. hoxton's best friend in the game has a bunch of unique lines when calling him in the game (hoxtinator, hoxtitron, hoxtalicious, etc) and we always joked that it sounded like he was calling a dog. so uh. yeah. his registered name is Let's Get Paid, one of the lines from another character in the game, which is a shooter where you're a bank robber, by the way.

Mirage - one of two cats. mirage is a side character in the video game that my husband and i cite as how we met each other. we show her in household pet, and one judge asked if i named her after the casino because she climbed the pole on the judging table, and commented that she had a lovely party dress (she's a calico.) her show name is now Make it Rain in honour of that judge implying my cat is a stripper.

Kismet - the other cat. kismet is a defunct tool in the Unreal gaming engine that my husband uses regularly at work and at home. i don't even remember the conversation, but on the way to pick up the cat we were talking about kismet and i said that'd be a cute cat name. her show name is Cache Overflow, sticking with the money theme (since it also sounds like cash overflow,) and kismet the program was notorious for crashing due to, you guessed it, cache overflow errors.

Sam - is the snake. a relatively dull name, but he's named after Jetstream Sam from the metal gear rising revengeance game.

so i guess in short all my animals are named after video games because we're both massive nerds :p

If you couldn't tell I'm doing the Studio Ghibli theme as well with Totoro and Mai, the next doe I get which will probably be a dutch or lionhead will be named Satski, I also have a Mootah, although he's black, funnily my cat named Little Britches has a tail resembling Mootah's (Which I didn't realize I've been spelling the name wrong the entire time, what better time to change the spelling than now lol) When I get my first 3 Angora's I want to name the does Bronagh, and Saoirse, and name the buck Cu from the movie "Song of the Sea".. I need to figure out what I'll be naming my dutch and rex once I get some but we'll get to that once we get to that lol

I was naming the FA after plants, common names for the bought ins and latin for the homebreds, but between running out of good names and no one being able to pronounce the Latin names I gave up. All I have left from that batch are Sage and Rue.

The meat mutts are Blue since she's a broken squirrel and Zod since I thought he was a super steel at first. My friend I got him from called him Superman since he was 'the man of steel', but I said I'd rather name him Lex Luther since I wasn't a superman fan. She countered with Zod and it stuck, so all the does 'kneel before Zod', as she puts it.

The black FA doe is Moira from a book I was reading. The other FA I picked up are named after fire related items like the breeder suggested since that's her theme and she's breeding Reds at the moment, so Ember and Brand.

The SA all came named, so Ace, Alla, and Starlight. I don't bother changing names unless they're unbearable.

Right now, mine are all getting Japanese names, because the breed is "Japanese" harlequin, despite there being absolutely nothing Japanese about them. Either way, there are plenty of names with simple meanings to use. I shouldn't run out any time soon.

Everyone has such creative names!
I name all my rabbits, kits included, because it's fun :D I name my rabbits with a theme. If there is something in the theme that goes with the personality, I use it. Not all have matching names, but quite a few have.
For instance:
Pippin I named after the hobbit in the Lord of the Rings because he is quirky and energetic.
Nugget I named after a dog in a book(Wingfeather saga by Andrew Peterson), but also because he was the chunkiest newborn.
Eowyn I named after the lady in the LOTR because she is feisty yet sweet.
Gandalf(RIP) I named after the LOTR wizard because not only was he gray, but he survived a dog attack as a kit(like Gandalf survived the beast thing).

Litters:
Radagast was orignally going to be Gollum becuase he was the wrinkliest kit, but we changed it to another unique name later on.
I named a litter after the Wings of Fire book series by Tui Sutherland. Jambu was the best, because the book character was crazy and goofy, and Jambu was quite something! He was a super spastic popple, literally jumping out of our hands at 1 day old! Later on, he was known for constant zoomies, and barreling into his siblings. He quite irritated his poor mother  My sister named his brother quite an interesting name. His name was Mastermind, and surprisingly his new owner thought it was so funny she kept his name. Mastermind now lives down the street from us.

When I first got into rabbits back in Feb 2008 I named my first buck Adam because he was the first. One of my first does was a NZ Red named Scarlett. the buck I kept out of their first litter was named Fred because, well, it just seemed to fit him. I currently have a doe that I named Lucille after Lucille Ball because she seemed pretty red when she was younger but has turned out to be more of a brown... oh, well...

My first rooster was named Axl because he had long orange head feathers like Axl Rose. My current rooster is named Tommy after Tommy Lee because he has long black head feathers. I have a little gold laced cochin chicken named Chicken Little because she is at the bottom of the pecking order in the flock and always seems worried about being picked on. I have a hen that I think is a polish chicken, she has hair on her head instead of a comb and it looks brushed back so I called her Dawn after Donald Trump.

I let others name some of mine (my niece,(kiki &gigi) my friend (Dolly), the kid that lives next door to the farm (Sheri))
I like to name my rabbits after fairy tales.
Little Red Riding Hood, Fiona, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Fynn
Etc.

The grow-out meat rabbits are all CLOWNS... the red clowns, the Chin clowns.... I try not to name critters I plan on eating.... unless the name is stew, drumstick, BBQ, Christmas, Thanksgiving (turkey)... lol

I think I called the food by color. I had blackie, Lilac and Skunk. Blackie was first to go, I had no problems as I had never grew attached but Skunk I had loved since she was tiny and had I been smart I would've kept her instead of that stupid lilac that didn't like her sisters. Definitely learned not to name food though. Makes it A LOT harder

Oh and my kids helped me name one DA Blue Fuzz. She fuzzy and broken blue lol.

.. Dad? Just kidding. Though seriously, that's 100% how my Dad names his animals. I gave him a dog and he named her Tubby. "Why Tubby?" .. "Because she's tubby." He had two dogs once and he named one of them "Sister," because... you guessed it, because she was the sister to the other one. He doesn't name many of his chickens but the few that get names are similarly unimaginative.
"Cheeks" because she has fluffy cheeks.
"Stubbs" because one of her feet froze off when she was chick but it just healed over to a stub and she hops around on it just fine. One of his best hens actually, lol.
Oh! And he had two cats. Their names? "One" and the "Other." He still has Other.

Ah. I wasn't suppose to submit that last message yet, I meant to just preview it but oh well.

Anyhow, back on topic of my rabbits... I do often name my food. In fact we have two little juniors right now that are destined for the dinner plate. One I nursed back to health when she was 3-4 weeks old, her name is Qwerty because when she was feeling the worse she would hop onto my keyboard of my laptop and "hibernate" there for the warmth. The other food bun is named Streak because, to be honest, he had this streak of poo on his back at one point and it helped me differentiate them when we had 4 white look-alikes. (I guess I'm not as imaginative as I thought!)

Previous food:
Twin 1, Twin 2 (couldn't tell them apart except by checking sexes), Momma's Mirror (looked identical to momma except facial features swapped sides), Big Boy (grew the fastest) and Snow White because she was the only one who was all white. We did end up keeping Snow White, so even though she started out as food, she became a breeder.

I guess I'm not very imaginative when it comes to naming my food, lol. I really end up naming them simply for record keeping to see how quickly that litter is growing. I have no trouble dispatching them even after playing/cuddling/naming them.

Previous buns:
Caspian, Ester & Cleopatra. - 3 claimed New Zealands who were going to be the start of my breeding stock. Turns out I was hoodwinked and they were mutt mixes on the smaller size. 5 months old and only 3.5 lbs? HMMM. Such the newb. So after falling in love with Caspian I ate all three of them. He was such a great bun! If only he was the right size. :( He did taste delicious on some tacos...
Octavia - Actually got given this girl, free CL rabbit. Named to fit with the roman theme.
Naevia - From the TV series Spartacus, always thought it was such a lovely name! Though MAN was this a mean doe! Should have used that name on a much nicer bun... I still might..

Current horde:
Hodor - Weird lug of a buck, I really think he looks like a Hodor... named from Game Of Thrones.
Cersei - Queen bee attitude, named from Game of Thrones.
Clover - Sweet as sugar, needed a cute simple name to go with.
D'artagnan - Young strapping lad, needing a fun noble sounding name.
Jeri - My husband named her after his uncle Jerry when he thought she was a HE. When I sexed them at a few weeks old I laughingly informed him that we'd have to change the spelling of her name.

I try to keep a Roman theme since I love those names but my husband is against naming any of our future children Gannicus or Spartacus... so I end up naming the rabbits names I'm partial to.

Oh! Also the rabbits pictured in my signature, from left to right you've got Jeri, Ester, Momma's Mirror, and Mizz Houdini. Mizz Houdini got her name because she was ALWAYS trying to find a way out of the exercise pen. Climbing up the walls, digging under the fence, etc... We ended up selling her but she was also destined for the dinner plate.

I name all my pets due to their looks and personality as well! :) Olaf, my bunny and best friend was originally named ' Mary Hoppins' because we thought HE was a SHE.....SURPRISE!!!! He turned out to be a boy! :p Don't judge me though, LFB and I were very new to rabbits and didn't know the difference. I wasn't upset though
I was gonna name him Bay-Max, like from the movie Big Hero Six, but I thought about his personality. And he was fluffy.....so Olaf was the best name out of all the names I thought of! I also happened to just LOVE the movie Frozen soo much:)
So that's why Olaf is Olaf! And if I imagined that he had a different name or call him a different name for fun, it doesn't match him. :D
