Irritated I am...but hey.. three lionhead buns up for rescue

Post Number:#1  Unread postby ladysown » Tue Dec 18, 2012 7:25 pm

So got to a place today with the aim of taking some rabbits off the hands of folks not wanting 'em.

Didn't expect to find a wee youngster with a broken leg and clueless people.
They got the money to spring for a big party (lots of booze) this weekend, but not enough to take a bunny to the vet that needs to go there. Irritated I am.

ANYWAYS...

Here are the cuties

Guesstimating based on size, attitude, etc. that they are between 8-10 weeks old.
mom is lionhead, dad is supposed to be a sibling (you know the buy two does and one isn't scenario).
Both parents are in the 5-6 lb range (haven't weighed them).

So they are free to folks on RT with rabbit experience. They are $15 for the girls and $10 for the boy if you are not on RT and are NOT experienced with rabbits.

When I cross my magpie mini lop with my otter holland lop I occasionally get a bunny with half up ears or one up and one down. Both parents have fully lopped ears. It makes me wonder if there are different genes involved in making a rabbits ears flop and they don't always work together the way we want them to.

Partially lopped ears happen sometimes with Holland lops.usually it because they dont have good crowns.

I was all excited, planning how to bribe my mum to take me to get one of the does, but I don't want to add any lop genes to my herd. Hurry and rescue a BEW or Broken Lionhead, Ladysown, lol.

No- but one of my former roosters is! :P

I have a friend who raises show Silkies and also has a mixed flock- he valiantly protected her hens from marauding hawks. :)

ah...an update. Fairly sure momma is bred. Dad has found a home as well. IF momma is not bred she'll be looking for a home as of the 23rd. (last possible date she could conceive).
