New here, awesome PIC

Post Number:#1  Unread postby duxthe1 » Mon Aug 28, 2017 9:34 pm

I'm new here, but have been reading and learning as much as I can. I have 3 rabbits at our urban farm. A NZW buck, doe, and a 1/4 Silver Fox 3/4 NZW doe. The buck 'Clyde Frog' is an unproven youngster, but the does are 2 yrs 'Lizzy' and 3 yrs 'Alice' and neither have been bred before the recent attempt.

The first attempt to breed Clyde Frog to Lizzy (the mix) didn't stick so she was re-bred a couple weeks ago. Meanwhile Alice is on day 31 and she haystached and pulled fur today! Judging by the pic I took this morning, both at the same time.

We're done waiting, Alice birthed 5 kits this morning. I noticed a lot more fur in the nest box when I went out to check on her this morning. Then I noticed a piece of straw twitching so I dug in under the fur and counted 5 kits. They're surprisingly large and look healthy from just a quick look. So far she seems to be doing everything right so I'm going to leave the nest box in the cage with her.

The other good news is Clyde Frog is now a proven buck. Hopefully in a couple weeks Lizzy can join in the fun. :bunnyhop: :bunnyhop:

Five days in and Alice still has 5 healthy looking kits. Here's a pic of the fat one "Chunky". I was worried that she wasn't in milk for a couple of days but they started to fatten up before I felt the need to intervene. I'm pretty proud that she is doing so well with her first litter.
