That mix should make really good squirrel dogs.

That's great, dad has very high prey drive, I want to use it to my advantage and train him, and let him train my pups. I want to take them squirrel, and rabbit hunting as well as be able to turn them loose and have them kill any rats or other unwanted rodents. I'm praying they have the prey drive like dad, if they don't I hope he teaches them it. I'm about to start potty training, they aren't big enough for anything else yet.

The best way to train a squirrel dog is to take them hunting. Once a few have been shot out of trees to them they are usually hooked.

I have no doubt I'll have any problems with him. I bring the rabbits inside and his pupils take over his eyes, he just stands and stares at them shaking. I do need to train him well before we go out. I want him to sit, lay, stay and come at the least. He's still young. Any recommendations on training him? I'd prefer to do it without treats or a clicker.

Most definitely! I have mentioned the story of the stray we thought was fixed, but wasn't  . The pup we kept from her we are pretty sure is JR (the stray)/Heeler (neighbor dog) mix. My oldest was hoping she would be a squirrel dog. Last year she showed a little interest, but nothing major. This year? She is officially a squirrel dog! They didn't take her every time... at one point ODS came in after dark huffing and puffing - DH had shot one down, it hit the ground and ran. He sent ODS home to get Star so she could find it. He thought he knew where it was so when she went digging at a trash pile (wood, tires, etc.) he was pretty frustrated. He kept trying to call her over to the wood pile, but no luck. Joke was on him, that's where it was! She spooked it enough to come back out so they were able to get it (didn't want to let it suffer). It was on after that. She has done really well tracking them if they lose them, and boy is she hooked! The other day when our neighbor's dog went on a killing spree with my chicken's and guineas  I pulled out the .22 and was taking practice shots on a walnut, just in case he came back around (the owner said he would stay penned up, but you never know). Star came flying around the corner, almost leaping through the air. I didn't know what in the world was going on and DH started laughing "She thinks you shot a squirrel!" Sure enough, she sniffed back and forth for several minutes before she finally gave up and followed us back to the house.
