I don't so much hate dealing with pet buyers as long as they keep contact. I recently sold two kits to a first timer pet rabbit family as a favor for a liter that wasn't mine. I told them specifically that they are just around 4 months and are brother and sister. They messaged me yesterday asking if they should just go ahead and breed them. It was upsetting because they know nothing about rabbits and I referenced them to places for information. I told them also that they aren't pure and already the world has an over population if you aren't planning to breed to standard. I think some people jump the gun when they get rabbits and it's upsetting. I also let them know that not to cross brother and sister just to witness the miracle of life because it's entertaining or to make a quick buck. Do your research and get info about the A.R.B.A. They also eat enough groceries as it is. I'm just thinking: Unless you have an appetite for rabbit ( which I'm 100% positive they don't), breeding mindlessly in the suburbs is not the best choice

Breeding and animal that you own
is fine and acceptable as long as you have
an outlet for what is going to be produced.
That outlet cannot be in your mind, you have
to think it through before hand and have a definite plan
that you will be able to follow through with.
If there is any uncertainty about what the outcome might be
I would say "Don't breed your Rabbits!
As always, JMPO.
Ottersatin.

Rabbits are pretty durable towards inbreeding. Most breeders inbreed pretty heavily and when you start out will sell you a closely related pair for a more predictable outcome. I try to avoid full sibling breeding but if that's all I had and they showed no genetic problems I wouldn't hesitate to establish my line that way. I also breed stuff that is not to standard and cross all the time then sell as pets. If there's a market and you do your best to make sure they go to a knowledgeable home so it's unlikely they will end up in shelter I do not see the problem. I got 3 netherlands as pet quality due to bad markings that I'm breeding. I've got a litter of mini rex x netherland with 2 going to a home tomorrow and just crossed my other mini rex to the other netherland buck because the mini rex buck I want to use isn't old enough. I do have backup plans though. What I don't sell as pets is butchered. The small breed crosses make good cat food. It's hard to find raw cat food of small enough bones they can eat the whole thing. Most people buy one of the several $100 grinders that can grind rabbit. I just butcher extra small breed pet rabbits.

Personally I would just warn them that crossing siblings is not ideal and they would be better off getting a less related rabbit. Along with the fact it may be difficult to find homes for the offspring since none of the show crowd will buy them and it is best if they have a backup plan or can keep them all before deciding to breed. Then give them rabbit breeding info.

sorry if you sell a male and a female to a home I'd fully expect them to be bred ... your average person has no idea how receptive does are or how quick bucks are

I have to agree with Brody, many new bunny owners don't quite get how quickly some rabbits mature sexually, and before they know it they have a litter of buns in the nest.
