Ok, so I have yet another question. I have read you should not give treats to rabbits under 6 months old. So what do you do in a colony? We give fresh greens (and they LOVE dandeline leaves) and carrots ever so often, BUT the kits get it too. How do you stop them from eating the treats we give the girls?

You don't. If you just feed as you always would, the kits will sample the adults' treats when they are ready. My kits are munching on greens as soon as they come out of the nest tunnels. If the foods are available from the beginning, there is no inclination to overindulge... and that is what causes the problems and leads to the books saying no greens until six months. What do they think wild European rabbit kits eat?

It is, however, a very good idea to feed hay as well. Hay is a great preventative of GI problems in rabbits of all ages.

Lol, ok cause I have three week old kits munching on cilantro!

We keep hay in and free feed pellets. These were the kits that were hidden in the dirt tunnel until earlier this week! I wondered what they did in the wild lol

If the kits get small amounts of food from day 1 their digestive tracts will adjust to it the same as they do to pellets and hay. The problem is if you with hold fresh foods and then want to give treats to weaned kits. Their digestive tract is very sensitive and does not adjust well so people that don't feed fresh foods or other treats often and while the kits are growing up end up being extremely cautious about it with young rabbits
