I think it is a bit messed up that a feed company that is supposed to be about good nutrition makes a cheaper line for walmart with fillers...I can see how it can happen to maybe load the wrong bags since it is plain pellets. Did you happen to find a contact number on the bag??

Our bags just come with the guaranteed analysis, not the ingredient list.. you have to email/call them to get it sent to you. I find it funny that rabbits can eat wood/bark/sticks, but can't digest the same cellulose found in the corn hull..

Sorry forgot to mention our feed also contains some sort of natural mycotoxin contrl as well

I hate that the feed only comes with the guaranteed analysis and not also an ingredients list. Year ago, I emailed Purina for the ingredients in their rabbit pellets and was horrified to find animal tallow among the ingredients. That was when I made the decision to transition the rabbits to a natural diet. I've never regretted it for a moment.

I wouldn't be too comforted by products that have an ingredients list, either. For items like cat food (dry, kibble) the ingredients list is allowed to be inaccurate for up to 6 months after they change the ingredients actually in the product. I'm not sure of U.S. "standards" on this, but if I remember right it's either 6 months or a year there. Bottom line is you have no way of knowing what you're getting with rules like these, and no recourse if they fill it with crap.

Definitely not a year. Dog food companies and some horse feeds have gotten in trouble for waiting 2 months to update. The most authoritative source I can find says 6months but here where ingredients labels are required and detailed companies tend to look bad and end up losing customers if they don't warn of a change within a couple months or preferably before it happens. A high end dog food company no longer operates in the US because they changed ingredients, told no one, and had tons of dogs get sick and still didn't tell anyone until the new bags with new labels came out. Another company outright said we will have to change our product and suggest you switch your dog to something else for awhile if they are sensitive. They are a thriving fairly high end dog food company in the US something like 5 years later still.

Food having in it what it says is a big deal here. That's why a lot of companies will put vague things like roughage products on there or grain by products so they can switch out what they use without having to change the label or inform anyone. I've also seen 3 or 4 grains listed together with and/or between all of them before the list goes on normally which I find a much better way to say your product may vary than just a vague who knows what that could be the grain hulls swept off the floor. Happens. Bunch of dogs got rat poison from them sweeping the grain leavings off the floor and in to the dog food.

Hopefully manna pro hasn't changed ( I will have to email them) because it's currently the only herbivore feed I have found or a feed store will order in 50miles with no corn. The horse pellet we were using is no longer available.

What's so bad about corn? It's poor quality energy. Tons of sugars, the type of fats for energy tend to put on bad fat (not bad if you want beef marbling) rather than good muscle meat, it's one of the most common legumes and grains to grow a toxic mold giving rise to the term moldy corn poisoning which mimics rabies and kills by encephalitis, it causes digestive upset and in larger livestock things like founder easier than any other grain, it has a horrible amino acid profile that is badly balanced making it a poor source of any protein... I could probably go on for a page of why corn is the lowest quality grain in existence. All it does is provide cheap energy and it's a cop out for any feed company to use it. Also it's absolutely horrible for the soil and formerly rich Iowa top soil is reaching near worthless without tons of fertilizer, no tilling, and rotating in soybeans. The weeds hardly grow in abandoned corn fields for years until it starts to recover. We only still produce and use so much of it in the US because the government has given tons of breaks and money to the corn industry and against competing industries like sugar instead of corn syrup and certain other grains that could replace corn.

Hi all- sorry to disappear on the discussion, but shopping is an all day affair when it is a hundred miles round trip.

I called the 800# on the bag of MannaPro, and explained my findings and gave them the lot number. I was assured that corn is NOT part of the feed, but they also manufacture deer feed for hunting season, so the lady I spoke with thinks the machinery may not have been cleaned properly between the two, causing some cross contamination. She thought that the risk would be over now, as most of the year they make significantly less deer feed. The lady I spoke to was very nice, and they will be sending out coupons for me. (Whoo-hoo... not.)

TSC took the remaining bag back, and I bought Purina Show blend instead of the MannaPro. I am not comfortable taking any chances just yet.

In answer to the question "What's the big deal?" I have multiple answers.

1. I do not trust GMO foods and avoid them if I can. Unless labeled as organic, practically all the corn in the US is GMO.
2. The mold/mycotoxin connection to neurological issues and death in rabbits.
3. I supplement my rabbits with grain as it is, and if other sources are in their pelleted diet I want to be aware of it so I can adjust my supplements accordingly.
4. What is the point of an ingredient label if it is inaccurate? (From prior comments I see that there are abuses of the loopholes in labeling laws, but I expect quality companies to show some integrity. If they do not, I will spend my money elsewhere.)

Hopefully I wont see any problems with the rabbits from the corn exposure. Next time I buy MannaPro I will ask to open the bag prior to taking it home- the TSC staff know me pretty well, so I don't foresee any problems with that request.

Manna Pro Rabbit Feed is not supposed to have corn in it. Occasionally, there are cases when this does happen. I have called their corporate office (800-690-9908) and had the issue resolved. They have even sent me a fresh bag straight from their plant. I can guarantee their service and response to the issue is a lot better than other companies I have dealt with in the past.

Manna Pro also offers two ingredient listings... 1. for the product that is made in California so they are abiding by the rules. 2. the ingredient listing for the other manufacturing facilities. I don't believe they are trying to hide anything or make the product out of ingredients that are not listed on the label. In fact, they just came out with new packaging and I would hope they would change the ingredient statements there if they were to be changed. I recommend calling if you have concerns and speaking with their nutritionist. He answered a lot of questions for me and helped to put my mind at ease.

The hold up at our feed store turned out to be the change in bags and the new bag says in big letters in it's own little box on the back "no corn" with reasons why. Doubt any formula changes are in the works if they just made new bags that still say no corn.

Like I said bad bag. It happens sometimes when they are milling different feeds in one place or run something through to clean the grinder (extruded items clog easy). Any reputable company or feed store will replace the bag for you.

I have the new bags too that say no corn but I feel that I'm seeing what appears to be ground corn bits in the pellets themselves. I've also found whole kernals of corn, but as mentioned they do use corn to clean the hoppers. Kinda weird, new bag, 'no corn' slogan but its bright yellow and clearly showing in the pellets.

Honorine, mine were the new bags, too! I used at least two of them, too. At first I thought I'd spilled a bit of chicken scratch in there, and contaminated it myself... but when I finally looked closely at the pellets themselves I found it was in them.

Absolutely there is bits of corn embedded in the pellets, not a lot, but I know its corn. Kinda funky they make a big deal about no corn but its there, really quite peculiar.
