Do any of you use the hides off your rabbits? I'd like to, but it seems as though the cleaning process before you send them to the tanner is extremely tedious.

I pinned the hide to a board and let them dry then tried to clean off the membrane next to the skin... PITA!

Is there an easier way of doing this? Should I use salt, lye, boil them?

Moving this topic to the "Rabbit for Fur" forum. You'll find quite a bit of information there, Dana.

My hubby stretches out the hide and rubs in salt while scraping the membrane off. Its takes a few days and more reapplying of salt but it works very well for us. Then using tanning solution is the final step. I plan to make some rabbit skin pillows for my bed.
