For the total newbie raising rabbits, which is the best place to post if you want an overall assessment of the basic conformation and potential of your stock? Should we begin in breed discussions and start w/ the SOP and narrow the points down from there? Or start with our goal, whether it be color, fur, or meat and then narrow our focus?

I realize that viewing an animal in person is preferable to seeing one in 2D, but I'd at least like to have some idea of what stock to bring to a show for a judge's opinion so I don't make a complete fool of myself.

Guidelines to posting in appropriate forums would be appreciated... but please speak slowly and use small words!

Thanks!

We are not too picky about where you post such questions, MamaSheepdog. Breed Discussions should be used to discuss purebred rabbits only, but does not have to be limited to show points, since many of the breeds are used for fur, fibre, or meat. But if your interest is almost entirely in the utility of the rabbits, you might want to post under the particular forum relating to that interest. No one is going to jump on you for your choice.

I do move threads from time to time. Sometimes it is to give them better exposure. The one forum I am picky about is Rabbit Care, which I like to reserve for questions and discussions about care: housing, feeding, ilnesses, breeding etc. p\People post here because they need help or advice. If I see a "popple announcement" or similar post there, without reference to some complication that requires input, I do move it to Random Rabbit Ramblings. RRR is a very popular forum and anything rabbit related may be posted there. Hope this helps!

depends...what is your primary goal?

If your goal is meat production, take pics of your does, load them into photoshop or whereever and post them here.

We can look at them from a meat perspective.

THEN once you winnow that down a bit, we can look at your next goal and work our way along that way.

Thanks Maggie-

I had a fright, though. When I read the first line, I substituted 'you' for 'we', making it read "you are not too picky about where you post such questions, MS." Gasp! I haven't had enough coffee, apparently! I think I have a pretty good handle now on where to post what. :)

ladysown,

Thanks- I did post in meat rabbits first, since meat is my primary goal- but I've started with good stock and don't want to ruin my line. I would like to start showing also, so don't want to keep selecting for one quality to the detriment of the overall animal. So much to learn! :?

It's okay to post different aspects in different forums. Once you get your meat conformation questions answered in the Meat Rabbits forum, you can ask further questions, about breed SOP and so forth, here.
