I can't find my ARBA book so can't look these questions up at the moment and the show I am attending on the 28th will follow ARBA rules.

Does a rabbit earn a leg only by winning BOB? How many entries does a rabbit have to compete against to earn a leg? Do the numbers vary with region, as is the case with the AKC? Can I ask the show secretary if any other St. Rex have been entered when I pre-register?

What is the age to compete as a youth? Does the winner of the youth category compete for BOB with the open animals? Can the same rabbit be entered by a youth and also be entered in open at the same show? Is it preferable that youth competitors be ARBA members?

All of the Standard Rex seem to be concentrated in No. Ca., so I hope to enter enough animals to earn a leg on one of them. Hopefully there will be some competition- it would be a hollow victory if I'm only competing against my own stock.

Unfortunately, most of my does are bred (or Astrex) so I don't have many of them to bring. But there is another show at the end of March that I can plan for.

I think I can answer some of your questions.
For a rabbit to win a leg, there needs to be 3 breeders and 5 animals. BOB gets a leg if this is the case. I think BOV gets a leg if there are 3 breedres and 5 animals in the variety.
Youth need to be 6-18 years old. Youth competes against youth only. The same rabbit cannot be shown open and youth in the same show. The rest of your questions, I eagerly await answers also.
Hope this helps a little.

Legs... a rabbit earns a leg with 5 in a Class / with 3 exhibitors.
a rabbit earns a leg with best of variety IF there are 5 rabbits / and 3 exhibitors of that variety.
a rabbit earns a leg for best opposite sex of variety IF there are 5 rabbits of that sex in the variety / and 3 exhibitors.
a rabbit earns a leg for Best of Breed IF there are 5 rabbits of that breed shown / and 3 exhibitors.
a rabbit earns a leg for Best Opposite Sex of the breed IF there are 5 of that sex / and 3 exhibitors.
Lots of ways to earn legs. To earn a Grand Champion a rabbit needs 3 legs. 1 of those legs must be won as either a 6/8 or a Senior.
No matter where in this country one shows the count is the same 5/3.

While a Youth can show in the Open class... and Adult may not show in Youth. The same rabbit may Not be shown in both groups the same show. No one Needs to be an ARBA member to show( except at Convention) but only ARBA members can earn legs. You certainly can ask the show secrtary about entries... they might not have a final count right then... but could offer a ball-park figure.

Hope this helps a bit. RR :bunnyhop:

Yanni,

"The same rabbit cannot be shown open and youth in the same show." I assume the reason for this would be that the animal has to be owned by the exhibitor. Perhaps I can get a leg after all- Hubs owns our original buck, my 3 kids each have their own rabbits, and they will be joining 4H soon. ARBA has the option of withholding the leg if the animal doesn't truly merit it, I would hope.

RR,

Just as with dog shows, there are many ways to earn legs... is there also BIS? I imagine they have to win legs in at least two categories- not all three as BOV or BOS, as well as meeting the age requirements. Are there Grand Champion titles?

The more questions I think of, the more excited I am about this show! :D

Not completely certain the question here. ( i'm old and easily confuzzeled...)

As long as at least One leg is won as a 6/8 or Senior... a rabbit 'could ' earn all three legs as class wins. With some of the breeds with large numbers entered, that is an accomplishment !
A rabbit can only win One leg at a show. Even if there were 5 in its class, and the rabbit beats out 29 for BOB, then goes on for Best in Show...it will earn One leg.

There are so many ways for a rabbit to earn legs... but sometimes getting that Last leg as a 6/8 or Senior is a trip ! The juniors seem to have such a bloom to them , that the older rabbits just cannot beat them !

did i come close to answering Your question ??? :bunnyhop:

After a rabbit has 3 legs... ( with one as a 6/8 or Senior ) and meets Senior weight range for its breed... it can be registered and the legs sent in for a Grand Championship.

A leg is generally awarded to any rabbit which wins a class, best or best opposite of variety, best or best opposite of breed, or best in show and now for best reserve in show (recent change), provided that there are a minimum of 5 rabbits shown by 3 exhibitors in the category pertaining to the win.

I have 2 grand champions from last year, and each of their legs were won as seniors. Per ARBA rules, though, at least 1 of the legs must be won as either a 6-8 or senior for the animal to qualify for a GC certificate.

If you are attending a double show you can win more than one leg.

Correct. But still only one leg in each show. :bunnyhop:
