    Thank you!

For the downloadable books. I just went a little nutty in there and cannot wait to read them. :) If anyone ever comes across old (at least early 1900's, prefer older) books on homekeeping and cooking, at thrift store prices up to maybe $15 a book, I'll pay to have them shipped, I collect them. :)

    American Blue

So in the midst of my angst against my rabbit becoming the devil....I found someone on Craigslist that has pedigreed American Blues. :) :) :) Guess who is picking up two on Saturday? (God willing) This girl! I'm getting two blues and an NZ buck. I'm psyched.

    My buck BIT ME!!

I'm so angry right now!! :o We don't have a ton of does, so today was the first time I bred him to two different gals. He is my dutch mix buck. He's got a great body type for a meat buck if only possibly a little on the smaller side. The second gal (Ehbunny) was just beyond...

Goodness I'm stupid and also update on my crosses

I moved three kits out of the litter of five away from my NZ, Esmerelda, last week. Last night I moved the remaining kits out. They will be 8 weeks on Sunday, but they are so big they were driving her crazy. The two I moved last night...I moved them into a big clean cage, new feed, new hay...

    I'm really surprised this happened...should I be?

Feel free to move or delete this if it is no appropriate. I post on a lot of forums. I can no longer work, so it's nice to get some form of human interaction during the day. I figured I'd ask this here because there's a lot of crossover membership between here and BYC. I haven't really been...

    Wow!!

It's a whole different ball game when the doe is REALLY lifting, isn't it? I thought I'd seen my girls lift, but goodness, no I have not. My husband said he wasn't sure if he should cover his eyes or light a cigarette..

For all you NE PA rabbit lovers

We purchased a bunch of cages form a family that was out of the rabbit business. They loved it, but it was getting to be too much for them to do. They had 550 rabbits at their highest point. They have three individual outdoor grow-out hutches that can house anything up to flemish. I loved them...

    Question about rabbit pricing

I've been talking to someone about buying their rabbitry contents. I'm unsure of the pricing they have but it seems somewhat reasonable to me. It's a little buck heavy for my purposes however. I'm also taking into account I would need to buy cages for this size rabbit. Two purebred New...

100 Speckled Sussex straight run for $90! And if you don't want that many...I just purchased 100 and will be selling some. That's cheaper than tractor supply!

    Today is the day

that I started locking my bunny barn. And that makes me sad. :( I haven't changed my mind about the general (not 100% but primarily) that if you have nothing to be afraid of, that you will be fine. I.E. if your standards of care are appropriate, you will have no issues. I'm much more...

My first case of nest box eye...

and the first time the kits are raised in a wood box. Connection? I read some of the previous thread on nestbox eyes...What type of teabags were people using? Can I use a generic eye ointment?

    Turkeys too?!

So my husband added two nearly-adult narragansetts to the backyard. They look like monsters. Someone in our town was getting rid of them because they were killing their chickens (!!!). So now I guess they try to kill me? Hopefully they'll be eaten by the end of the month.

    How special is a lilac?

My rabbits seem to not know which breed they are and keep throwing me curveballs. But I have these two boys...one solid blue, and one solid lilac. The blue is HUGE for 11 weeks, the lilac is much smaller bodied. They are so friendly, but I'm not sure how 'useful' they will be in meat...

    That is IT!!!

:D All of you are horrible influences on me! (scared you, didn't I!?) :P I haven't done the dishes today, but I've been out with the buns three times. I'm added to my little herd. I'm thinking of adding breeds that are not meat... You foster and promote addiction to fluffly...

    odd behaviour

We cleaned the bunny barn and scoured the cages today because I suspect we have a mite problem. Dusted everything in DE, dusted cages, dusted rabbits. It was a NICE day outside so 60 degrees and great weather for doing this. Moved all the rabbits outside so they weren't breathing the DE as we...

    I think I've pulled a 180 about 'animal rescue'

and dog rescue in general. Especially 'no kill shelters'. We've had bad experiences, friends have had HORRID experiences, and so few are non-profit. I'm sure there's possibly some good ones out there, but it's few & far between. And I just think what they have evolved into completely...

Sores/Scabs on rear of head between ears

One of my 11 week kits has scabs on her head. I have a lot of cage space, so I have two buns each in 36 x 36 hanging cages. I've been shuffling them around last weekend as it's getting more obvious for me to sex them. The one with the scabs is a pretty blue color, so I've been debating keeping...

First really cold day for me as a bun owner!

It was a little below 9 last night. It's the weirdest weather...it will be in the fifties...than bitter cold, and twenty all day today and tonight, than tomorrow it will be in the forties. It's just around 40 in the barn. Yesterday it was the same temp and it was at least twenty degrees...
