    At a loss...enteritis, I think

I started loosing kits last week. This morning the 5th one died, and I finally autopsied it; the liver was clear, but the intestines were full of dark mushy paste, and the colon had only a few tiny, hard pellets instead of the long row of smooth round droppings normally present. This kit wasn't...

    It's been a while....

....but I'm still raising rabbits! I still have Dovetuft...the best mother I've met! She preps the nest early, raises the fattest kits, and passes down her nest making obsession to her daughters. We were able to purchase a Rex pair - a blue doe and black buck - from Jessica Decker, one of the...

    Sewing projects

After the little chat-box discussion regarding what sewing projects people are working on, I thought I would start a thread about it... ;) I enjoy sewing clothing in particular. I want to learn how to take measurements, then draft patterns from them accurately. That way I could theoretically...

Guesses on what breed this could be?

A few days ago my dog found this little rabbit in our yard. Thankfully he is an amazing dog and stopped chasing it shortly after I told him to leave it. It hid in an easily accessible spot, so my husband and I were able to capture it. He is a very small boy, but his testicles are dropped...

    Belly dragging...

So I've been reading others' threads about their frustrations with does that may or may not be pregnant. You have my sympathies! I have a doe, Dovetuft, who struggled to recover after her last litter. I had posted something about her, since she was so thin and ragged. Finally she is healthy...

    Field peas for rabbits?

We got a bunch of organic feed stuff recently, with the intention of transitioning all our livestock over to a less commercial diet. We got oats, triticale, field peas, and some stuff for fowl too. Does anyone have experience or information on feeding the peas to rabbits? They are dried...and...

    First Success!

I tried that Murphy's Oil Soap tan Zass posted about a while ago....and it worked! :D No fur slip, and done in less than 24 hrs! The color and texture reminds me of how buckskin looks...kind of crinkly and white. It smells nice and is kind of soft...but I could have done a better job...

    Tooth infection??!!

This morning I go out to care for the rabbits, and what do I find? A sick rabbit. Of course it is the doe due in about a week. :x  This is so frustrating!!! Anyway, I'm uncertain of how to treat what I think is going on. I'm also not really sure WHAT is going on...I'm just guessing...

What would I get if...*with sunlight pics!*

I bred a harlequinized chestnut buck to: a. Harlequinized chestnut b. self black (could turn out to GTS or be masked steel) c. fawn d. chocolate All of these have the same sire....Zass's Magpie Harlequin who's genotype is AA Bb CC DD ejej, I believe. The two dams have similar genotypes...

    Foods for improving condition

I have a heavy milker of a doe with a three-week old litter of nine. She has been looking pretty run-down ever since she kindled. I have been feeding her free-choice pellets and hay supplementing with oats and BOSS. Is there anything else I can do to help her regain condition faster? Thanks!

    Digestive issues...probably dying...help!

My two-week old litter is having issues. To be more precise, one of the kits is definitely having issues, and the others may or may not be. About 4 days ago I found said kit with its butt sealed shut. I removed the caked-on poo, and he pooped some yellowish poo, and seemed ok. I put...

    Is this a scary question?

I recently was in touch with a local Rex breeder and shower about buying a trio of meat breeders from her. We had set up a time and place to meet, so I could see/buy the rabbits. After confirming that the place and time were fine for me, I asked her this question: *Just wondering...if you...

Excess cecotropes...why, and how to fix?

I have a doe nursing a week-and-a-half-old litter of 9. I feed pellets free choice, with a couple TBSP of BOSS in the morning. I also give her a few handfuls of greens each day. (grass, dandelions, mugwort, strawberry, Queen Anne's Lace, Goldenrod, clover) She also gets free choice 2nd...

    Rex breeder near Niagara Falls?

Hello, My husband and I are starting out with rabbits, and other than the lovely meat mutts from Zass, we have decided we want to raise standard Rex rabbits. Are there any reputable breeders within a 2 hour drive from here that anyone knows about? Suggestions on where to find some decent...

    Questions...pasteurella, allergies, dust???

You may remember my previous posts about my rabbits with what appeared to be Pasteurella. I culled a stotty, sneezy buck, sneezy doe and very young litter, and two abcessed kits. The mother of those abcessed kits and the rest of their siblings are still around. The mother has shown absolutely...

A fox went out on a chilly night...

...and begged for the moon for to give him light, He had many a mile to go that night before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o... many a mile to go that night before he reached the town-o. And when he got there, he ate chickens. And had fun killing the ones he didn't eat. :furious...

Funny thing happening...I don't think it is a problem...

Yesterday morning I went out to move the rabbit tractor I have my SF doe and her almost 6-week-old litter in, and noticed one of the kits had funny-looking ears! The top inch of both ears was bent over... :? It looked very funny! The rabbit was doing its thing, like normal...

Does this sound like good growth?

I weighed a few out of the litter of 7 (all that are remaining from 11) 4 week old kits out of my SF and I am curious how these weights sound in comparison to fryers that reach 5 lbs at 8 wks. The first weighed 2 lbs and the 2nd weighed 1lb 13oz. I will try to weigh some more tomorrow... What...
