HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

My wife and I flipped the one doe and put the 5 'adopted' kits to her. It went very well and will continue to do this daily. It is so awesome to see this happen ... so sweet. We have high hopes for these five. At the moment we only have one doe that has kindled a litter. The second doe is...

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

Thanks Ann for the advice on flipping the doe. I might try this right now and see what happens. It is a very good thing the doe 'adopting' the new kits is very gentle and will let us do practically anything to her without any fuss. I'll keep you posted.

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

As I am not a vet at all, I did not know what I would find. To my untrained eye, I did not find any stuck kit nor any sideways kit but it was hard to tell ... they were all packed in tightly. I did not see what I expected to see but rather the uterus was long like a 1 foot long sausage and...

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

The does that kindled two nights ago had 7 kits. We had wanted to put the strongest 4 or 5 in with the litter but do not know when ... right away, later on this afternoon, ???. Any advice on this? As for pedigree...the doe that kindled two nights ago is a NZ White and these kits are Reds...

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

Well, she did not make it and died two hours ago. However, my wife and I noticed that her abdomen was moving ... possibly the kits inside her still alive. We performed a 'home' c-section on her and most of the kits were still alive and there were a lot of them. I have not had time to count...

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

Well...she made it through the night, no kits and still working and breathing hard. She is discharging a fluid ... not urine or blood. She seems terribly uncomfortable ... poor girl. I'll keep you posted.

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

No, this is not her first litter. She has previously had two successful litters. We will try the calcium. Would some sort of massage help?

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

Her breathing is heavy and labourous but not wheezy. I found a site that has a mixture of antiboitics that can be resparated but I do not know where to find the antibiotics.

HELP - Pregnant doe labouring hard or Pneumonia or other????

One of my does was scheduled to deliver as early as yesterday. I noticed her yesterday sitting in her nestbox (she had not built a nest) and she was sitting up, lifting her head up slowly and then back down. She did this repetatively. I checked her through the night as I thought she might be...

    umm what wrong with him?

When I tried to breed for the first time I tried to put the buck and doe together in an old playpen but nothing happened. After getting frustrated I ended up talking to an older man who told me that unless you bring the doe into the buck's territory, not much will happen (which is what I was...

    Pregnant doe not eating

In this past week I have had two does kindle their litters ... one a litter of 10 and another of 8 ... all alive and doing well. In my brief experience with my four does, all four seem to not want to eat much at all several days before kindling their litters ... and I have not had a problem at...

    How much should I charge?

I had them processed at L&M Meats near to Bradford. I had a list of ministry approved rabbit processing facilities and after calling many of them near to me (Durham Region) they all told me they no longer processed rabbits but pointed me to L&M. Dropped them off and a few hours later (once the...

    How much should I charge?

Thanks Kat, I'll try the $4.99/lb and see where it goes.

    How much should I charge?

The dressed weight is between 3.5 and 4.5 pounds. The processor charged $4 per rabbit so at $4.99 per pound I will net $10-20 per rabbit less the cost of feed.

    I've got kits!

What colour of NZ do you have. My NZ Red just kindled a litter of 10 three hours ago and earlier this week (Monday) my NZ White kindled 8. I am awaiting another two does to kindle their litters ... here is to hoping they caught.

    How much should I charge?

I have about 12 cleaned rabbits that I want to sell for meat. The meat is Government inspected and approved and I was thinking of selling the meat for $4.99 per pound? Is this too much to charge for the Southern Ontario Market?
