Interested in Angoras, but a total newbie!

I’ve had angoras for 8 years now, go for it. Do your research first on what they need nutritionally and make sure your up for the grooming (as hotcats said, different breeds AND different lines mean different grooming requirements!), but they’re worth it. I’ve never had English or Giant, and...

    Lilac??? And ‘brassy’ Chins...

I need the hive mind! I have a kit who I was sure was a Blue chin at birth, now I can’t tell if she’s really a lilac chin or just a really light squirrel. Thoughts? She’s the bigger of the two. The smaller is a squirrel from a second litter that is closely related to the big girl. I was hoping...

    Harlequin color genetics outcome?

Time to pick some brains! I admittedly have little experience with the ej gene, but have a tiny side project going of trying to get Cchd/ej (Magpie) FA’s. This is my second and more streamlined attempt, as my first attempt was on generation 3 and while I had the color down, it would have taken...

    Show me your barns! :)

Oh no, hope your feeling better soon!

    Show me your barns! :)

Homer, that was the reaction I was hoping for! Should have known you’d pick up on it!! :P I was hoping people would do a double take and actually click on the thread.

    Show me your barns! :)

Hey guys! Long time no check in, I’ll remedy that in another post. :) For now, lets just leave it at the last couple years has been interesting and many changes have been made in the herd. The biggest change though, is that we’re moving! Well, we still have to make it through the inspection and...

    French Angora

Fiber production depends on the lines really. I would ask the seller how they do. As a general rule, most French angoras produce about 1 pound of fiber a year, some do worse and some do better. I have had FA for 6 years, and though my old lines had good production at about 3-5 ounces a molt...

    New rescue Angora

Glad to hear he is doing well! Does he have any tattoos? Germans are very specifically tattooed, if he has any you would be able to locate his breeder and his age.

    what breed is this?

Looks like a lion head, or cross there of, due to the fringe of hair around the face, aka ‘mane’.

Here we go again, (hope not!)

Glad she fed them for you!

Working life span of an Angora Rabbit?

Honestly it would range on a rabbit to rabbit basis. My doe i spoke of started out with a coarser coat, I’ll probably be saving her wool for my use before too long, it’s still softer than sheep wool, but it’s not quite what people think of when they invision Angora. Her brother on the other...

Working life span of an Angora Rabbit?

They do coarsen as they age, but I still use the wool from my 6 year old doe.

    Sallander

:) I'd love to meet more RT'rs, by I'm not going all the way to AZ. :( She's meeting me half way on her way through NM for another appointment. However, if you find yourself in CO for any length of time on your trip give me a shout!

    Sallander

Sixgun and I actually just 'sealed' a trade today. I will be trading her my Sable agouti buck for a blue sallander (called pearl in Angora) buck in the beginning of November. I did have a sallander buck way back. Let me see if I can find the pics. :) They are beautiful rabbits. __________...

Last Show for the Season, Southern Colorado

Unfortunately May is the busy season for me at work. I pretty much have little to no funndays between march and May. Worth it for the time off the rest of the year, but it gets pretty hectic.

Young kit injured, what now? Please help. *GRAPHIC*

IMO I would cull a kit with that bad of an injury. You could take it to a vet, but as small as kits are I wouldn't be surprised if they suggested the same thing. I'm sorry for your experience and for the little one, but it's the most humane thing to do at this point. Again, this is my opinion...

Last Show for the Season, Southern Colorado

11pm?! Heck no!!! If I do decide to go I'll just take your suggestion of only showing for show A and then leave, and that only if I have kits to sell. I doubt I'll have many showable rabbits with my does all coming up to breeding age. Probably just wait for the January show in Henderson. We...

Last Show for the Season, Southern Colorado

Congrats on the show placement!! Wish I could have been there. Is castle rock really that bad? I was planning on going /showing / selling the current litters, but if it's that bad maybe I won't. Then again the further north you go in the state, the more fuzzy breeders... ugh, decisions Last I...

    Recent Rabbit Spinnings

The fiber is from French, yes. It's all I have anymore. I did try Satin again, Briefly, at the beginning of this year, but the one doe produced pitiful amounts of fiber (turned out she had some weird liver condition) and I couldn't keep the buck on feed. I also had another doe that had to be...

    Harlequin markings?

That's what I'm afraid of. The buck I got is pretty muddy, but he has a nice dense coat and a good personality. Since I'm just trying for mutts from him I suppose it won't matter, but I was curious. The only harlequin I've dealt with before came from a steel so I never actually got to see how...
