Feeding Animals Grain, vs hay, produce, morality?

I agree that natural diets are best, and also agree not every farmer can feed naturally. While some farmers might say it's not feasible to feed x many cows naturally on this land, I would argue it's not feasible to put that many cows on that land. That farmer is pushing the lands ability to...

Feeding Animals Grain, vs hay, produce, morality?

This response is not aimed at anyone specifically. I spend a lot of time researching and learning about "proper farming techniques" and I can get a little touchy, sorry. It's a passionate subject to me. I can rant and get off subject in debates also, again sorry. If the grains were for human...

    Grow out pasture, anyone?

I love your little tractors, but I will not be able to do something similar as the area I plan to fence is huge. I guess I will be burying wire in the ground. How deep? I certainly don't mind them digging as long as they do not dig out! They will only be in one part of the pasture for a week...

    Grow out pasture, anyone?

Is the "shed" inside the area? Or is the shed the area? If the latter, I would recommend slotted floors or stucco wire to stop digging. Also, they bred these rabbits over 20 years to get them adapted to forage. Barley fodder could work too. I give my rabbits treats from my garden often and I've...

Feeding Animals Grain, vs hay, produce, morality?

I agree that feeding grains to cows is a waste. morality is not an issue I just feel like taking the amount of grain that could have fed 1000 people, and instead giving it to a cow that will only feed 150 people, is totally backwards. For many reasons too. Grain must be farmed, harvested, and...

    Lots of Questions

yeah that's true I wouldn't know how much a person would know about rabbits.(I have lots to learn myself) I'll bring that up to the wife. When I bought my original trio, the seller gave me a big list of do's and don'ts specific to our climate, and told me about this website. the less rabbits...

    Lots of Questions

Those sliver fox rabbits look so cool! Red Urine I was just out with the rabbits and noticed the agouti doe has red corners in her cage and some red/orange pee on the edge of the deflector. I started to take pics and flip out, then did a google search and read through some older threads here...

This agouti bun came pregnant when I bought her. I only have this doe, a NZW buck, and the litter that was in her belly. I did breed her to my NZW buck when the buns where 3 weeks old (Dec 31) so this next litter will be from my boy. __________ Sat Jan 11, 2014 6:32 pm __________ (A,A,Ahem...

    Lots of Questions

wow can you tell I'm new?! I can barely tell who wrote what...and I just did it. haha sorry Next question is rabbit meat. does it have a taste? I love lake fish (walleye, bass, northern, crappie, bluegill, etc) I HATE seafood. all of it. smells/tastes like ocean death. the wife loves seafood...

    Lots of Questions

In my opinion at least, mutts are mutts and purebred are purebreds. Being self blue does not make a rabbit a blue American, and being a ruby eyed white does not make a rabbit a new zealand. Your reds could be bred to a purebred New Zealand red, but will carry dilute(blue) and REW, and who knows...

    Lots of Questions

I bought a doe in early December on Craigslist to breed with my NZ white buck. (my only rabbits) she is a mixed breed and came pregnant - delivered 12/09/13. Her colors are blue and brown but evenly mixed, like a regular rabbit wearing jackrabbit fur. if that makes sense? All the babies made...

I'm back. Who wants to hear a story? I had box fan mounted in the door window of the coop to pull fresh air in, and a piece of shade cloth over the window with misters on the outside to make redneck type evap cooler. well about 2 months after I bought my trio, (june-ish?)the...

here are some pics. I bought them locally through craigslist and he brought like 10 for me to choose from (on a Kawasaki dirt bike no less. he was dressed real nice and we met at a starbucks lol, like a CEO/closet prepper)... so i figured he has quite a few and must keep a larger operation...

    Arizona heat and bunnies

Hello everyone, I am a desert homesteader and gardener. I have been following JRSKICK1 on youtube for about a year now and learned most of what I know about meat rabbits from his videos. Well I finally build a hutch similar to his design and bought a breeding trio of NZW last Friday, (5-6wks)...
