    Silver fox advice...more..haha (pics buried)

You have to breed the chocolates back to the blacks every couple of generations or you will lose that dark brown coat that it calls for. That's probably where you are seeing those light chocolates, or they are chocolates that are too heavily silvered and that's a whole different problem that...

    Silver fox advice...more..haha (pics buried)

Small or lean? Our main breeding bucks for chocolate and black were both at senior weight when they were being shown, but now that they're retired they are slightly below SOP minimums but they are in great health and have no issues when breeding. We keep them leaner so they don't build up the...

    Feed changeup a success

Not much, we double dosed on the pregnant does and they've both had great looking kits with no runts, but two litters is hardly any kind of scientific evidence. Of the three products though, either the Cirqulate or the Immunize is not recommended for pregnant does because it can cause kits to...

Man I wish I could finish a novel in under a month. Everyone I've done to this point have averaged about 6 months each to finish. This sounds like a neat contest.

    Telly why... sell for $5?

That's a good strategy for minimizing neglecters. Show screening works kinda like that to. At the show, a lot of that is made easier on me because not only does the buyer get to see my rabbits, I more importantly get to see their rabbits. If their rabbits look neglected and ratty (not heavy...

    Telly why... sell for $5?

We sell them at rabbit shows. We go to about 15 of them a year so it's not hard to get rid of our show rabbits that way. This way we get to meet the person face to face. I've never sold sight unseen (or didn't already know on a forum for a long time). The tire kickers in that environment are...

    Telly why... sell for $5?

Exactly. I would never post rabbits on craigslist. Eww gross.

    Telly why... sell for $5?

I have. The entire thread. Why do you sell for $5? Me: To help people. Everyone else: But I don't understand? Me: Because I don't care about the money. Everyone else: But I don't see how. Me: The concept is not hard to grasp. I dunno why you are having a problem getting this...

    Telly why... sell for $5?

And my thought is this: If my rabbit is worth $50, I'll sell it for however much I feel like selling it for, and you can do the same. Well then you be blind and I'll show up as an invisible spirit if I ever see you at a show. Because I could give a rat's behind what's in my bank account at...

    Telly why... sell for $5?

Agreed, if I was desperate to get rid of some buns they could be gone tomorrow for $25 a piece and a craigslist ad. I have plenty of rabbits that need to go, but they can wait til I find the right spot for them. I don't care if people sell their rabbits for $35-$55-$155 whatever. What does...

Do you try to control competition in your area?

Yea, that's why you should get the breed you want, not get the breed you think you can make money off of. Because 99% of the time, you're not going to make money at it. Grumpy is probably the only person on here who makes a modest profit and he has a bunch of rabbits a big setup and a common breed.

Do you try to control competition in your area?

Yea same here. I'm actual looking for techniques to bring more competition to my area for Lilacs.

    Telly why... sell for $5?

I tend to get a judge of people fairly quickly. But either way, I don't feel that giftee understanding the full value of a gift to be a pre-requisite for being generous. If they turn around and breed them and sell those babies for a profit, good for them. I'm more worried about finding my...

    Telly why... sell for $5?

Because this is a hobby I can easily afford and recognize that for others it might be hard to get into so I give many of them away for free. If I didn't see any value in them, I would give away any random rabbit to a kid looking to show instead of giving them quality stock. I also would give...

It will definitely save you from a lot of headache.

    New Breed(s) and Varieties?

Why would you find sables to be unimaginable to have the proper coat? They used to be an accepted Silver Fox variety in the 60s. From newly crossed herds people have gotten a sable silver fox to pop up from time to time. It could easily be from either a sable thrown in at some point in the...

    New Breed(s) and Varieties?

The fur is consistent, but getting 10 rabbits in the barn (4 seniors and eight 6/8/juniors, two of which had to be shown previously) is not always an easy endeavor. People have bad litters, or blown coats on the way to a show. The blues have been around a long time. Getting a former variety...

    New Breed(s) and Varieties?

No the blues silver fox are sourced from blue silver fox. They never went away, they just didn't have enough shown at convention. Their blues and chocs mix up but their blues were made from the original SF blues. This fail was at least acceptable compared to last year's joke. A rabbit from...

Nope, that would be nice. But if there was one, I'm sure it would get DOS'ed and that's probably one of the reasons there isn't one.

The ARBA has nothing to do with how the breed clubs conduct their business. It's not 'official' groups but it's where they do the most of their breed club talking.
