    How to "clean" fur

When I trapped and done taxidermy work I would wash all my bloody hides in dawn dish soap. Not only does it take out the blood but, it will actually help in degreasing the hide. Just be sure to rinse it good. I was taught to wash them this way using water hot enough that it was almost...

How high will you pay for a bale of hay

I have 300 square bales and 180 rolls of hay all in the dry and still have a second cutting to do on 30 acres. The goal is 250 rolls and 1000-1200 squares. I'm fairly sure that I'll have a heavy 3rd cutting so I should surpass that mark with ease. It costs me on average $15 per roll and $1.25 a...

What should a 12 wk NZ weigh?

How about temperature in relationship to 12 wk weight? Has anyone seen much of a weight drop in the 12 wk olds in extreme heat?

    Keep those rabbits cool.

I use the frozen water bottles along side high volume fans blowing on them inside the big barn. Just this morning I installed a misting system and all I can say is WOW!!! It's like walking into an air conditioned building now and the rabbits are noticeably more active now that they are cooler...

    Summer nests-wire or?

I wondered myself about taking out the wood bottom of my prefabbed nest box (TSC brand) and putting the 1/2x1/2" mesh wire in the bottom but I wasnt sure if that was a good idea.

    Barn management

Good barn management to me starts with having a clean barn. I wash out the floor in our barn twice (or more if I'm there) a day. I turn the newest part of the droppings compost pile with the pitch fork twice a week and then the entire compost pile once a week with the tractor. Another good barn...

    combining 2 litters

Thanks for the quick responces. A "tractor" is only a framed structure that is moveable. I would take a picture of it but, the computer that we D.L. our pictures on has crapped out and we've not loaded the program in this laptop yet. Like I said mine is 10' long and 3' wide with an attached box...

    combining 2 litters

I have 2 litters of kits but only 1 rabbit tractor. The tractor is 10' long by 36" wide with a box on the back that is 24"x36". I was wondering if I can put the 2 litters together in the tractor? Their is a 1 month difference in age between them.

    Sigh...lost 8 of 9 out of Bella'a litter...

I had forgotten to unplug the air compressor when I finished working and it was on the break with the fans. I only had 1 fan running at the time I was using the compressor but, I turned on the other fan and left. I guess the air leaked down and when it kicked on it pulled to many amps and...

    Sigh...lost 8 of 9 out of Bella'a litter...

The breaker tripped in the barn the other night (it was 93 at 11 pm) and the fans quit. I lost 4, 2 week olds and thought another 2 weren't going to make it through the day but, they pulled through. I place an ice pack in the nest box now that it's hit 102, 104, 105 and 103.5 today. I also...

    Minimum and maximum temperatures?

We have our setup in an old barn that we've turned into our goat barn. The rabbits are on the wall of the day "loafing" area for the goats. It's a concrete floor and since it's washed twice daily to help curb the fly population there is alot of evaporation that cools down the barn very well. The...

Housing Questions to Avoid Future Headaches

I like your set up and how you attached the cages to the frames at the top. I would suggest that you get a piece of tin roofing and put it on a slope under you cages and run it into a tote or wheel barrel. I don't have to worry about the smell any more because mine are in the goat barn but, the...

    What we have so far

Well we've had our rabbits for some months now and we've gone from 3 rabbit to 20 rabbits in very sort order. I moved the rabbits from the tool shed to the goat barn and added a poop catching system that is working wonderfully. My computer is not wanting to up load the picture of the catch...

    Pasture ideas

I have been looking into "pasture pens" and everything I find makes a comment about escaping because of digging or slipping out from uneven slats. To stop this there needs to be a wire placed on the bottom of the cage but, in doing so it pushes the standing grass down to where it's harder for...

    A few questions

Our kits are 4 days old and I keep wanting to pick them up and check them out but, the wife keeps on saying don't mess with them. The doe comes up and watches my every move whenever I move the fur around in the box to catch a peek at them. She doesn't seem to get stressed about it. Can I pick...

    Hay Question

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!$18.50 a bale.... I planted a small 3 acre field this year in Alfalfa and paid $200 for a 50 lb bag of Alfalfa seed and thought I was getting ripped off. I am however stressing pretty bad over it right now because it was just coming up and turning the field green when it rained...

    Am I feeding correctly?

Thank you for the help. Yes, Ohiogoatgirl that is exactly what I was refering to as "poke weed" MaggieJ, I should have clarified what I meant when I said sage. I meant sage grass. Our cattle and goats eat it but, it's not what I would feed them strictly as hay so I just use the worst bales for...

    Am I feeding correctly?

Hello, I'm new here and new to the rabbit "thing" and I have a few questions. I keep a 5lb feeder full of pellet feed and then I suppliment fresh grass (clover, fescue, orchard grasses)almost everyday. After several weeks of weighing the pellet feed I've found that the days that I feed the...
