    Removing nest boxes

How early do you remove the nest box. Kits are about 3 1/2 weeks now. We're in Central TX, so while it's cold, it's not near as cold as most of you. No lower than mid 20's at night so far.

    Two feet of snow dumped

It got down to about 30 here according to my weather station. May have been colder in the area. Last week they had a 20% chance of snow tomorrow, but they took it out. I did see where we could get a few sprinkles tomorrow night. If it's cold enough, I guess it could be snow. We'll just have to see!

    Two feet of snow dumped

Here I was complaining about having to go out and breed the rabbits when it was 35 degrees this morning! That's cold for here in TX.

    We have babies!

Finally! One doe kindled 8 last night sometime. She is a first timer. All of them look good. Now if the other 7 does would just have their's. :?

Minimum age for meat pen rabbits

Probably. Here there is a min. weight of 3 pounds. Mine are due now for Jan 19th show. You could try, but I wouldn't really expect to win with them being that much younger. Might be worth a shot though. Good Luck!

    Beet Pulp

I was talking to a lady who was talking about feeding beet pulp to her horses. I looked it up, just out of curiosity and saw that some people feed it to their rabbits. Has anyone done this? Is there any nutritional advantage? We're raising for meat pens, so I was wondering if it might give us...

    Snow in TEXAS!!

I saw that on the radar! We're waiting for the front to get here in Waco. Unfortunately, I have to drive to Temple to get feed. Hopefully I'll get home before it gets too bad.

Why do I do this again?

They are all Californians so the pics won't be very interesting. I'll see what I can do though. Today is day 30 for some, 28, 29 for others. We've had them kindle anywhere from 28-35 days. It's supposed to get kind of yucky outside this weekend. I was kind of hoping they would be here before...

Why do I do this again?

So, I haven't been on in a while. We were kind of taking a break from the rabbit biz. We have about 6 month where the kids don't need meat pens, so we took that time off. We're waiting on 8 litters at the moment. Any time now..... They will show meat pens in mid-January, so here we go again! I'm...

    Californian Litter Size

I had a doe kindled a week early in December and lost 12. Most of mine have been 5-6 though. I've got 4 due any day now, so we'll see.

Will attempt to cook my first rabbit tonight!

They are fryers. I've got a ton of bacon grease in the fridge, maybe I'll use that. DH finally got all 7 of them put in the freezer. I've got another 11 due to be processed in 2 weeks. About the same time I have 4 does due to kindle. We are trying different breeding combinations to see what...

Will attempt to cook my first rabbit tonight!

Ok, so I saved the back legs from some of the rabbits DH processed for me last weekend. I plan on frying them up tonight. His cousin has been bugging me for rabbit since we got them in August! I can just fry them like I do chicken, right? That is the current plan. I'm just cooking a few since...

    Eye dropper vs syringe

The ones I used to have were plastic and very thick. It would take more than just one bite to get through it.

    Eye dropper vs syringe

Ask at the pharmacy. When my kids were little, they used to give them to me to dispense my kids RX. All I had to do was ask. I used to have a ton, but they've disappeared or the numbers have faded. Last time I checked, you could buy them in a 2 pack. They would hold about 2 tsp. and were plastic.

    Houston Livestock Show

Well, we didn't make the cut yesterday. Both kid's meat pens got cut pretty quickly. They only keep 30 pens out of over 100. We did get some good feedback though. When the judge went back through to tell us what needed to be fixed, he couldn't seem to remember why he cut our daughter's pen. We...

    Adding Weight to Meat Pen

Got the larger one down to where the others are! Now just have to get the small one up. Making progress! :)

    Adding Weight to Meat Pen

It is for the Houston Livestock Show. We don't live down there anymore, but we are showing. It is open to the whole state. They don't auction off, but the top 30 pens are awarded from $100 to $5000(for Grand). If you don't place in the top 30, you go home that day, if you do, you stay 2 more...

    Adding Weight to Meat Pen

Well, we only have 4 does of breedable ages. We bred all 4. One missed, one kindled a week early and lost a litter of 12, one had 6, and the other had 3 one day(one was a runt and didn't make it), and one more the next day that was DOA. That left us with 8. 6 from one doe, 2 from the other. This...

    Adding Weight to Meat Pen

I've got then separated by weights. The smallest one and the biggest ones have their own cages. I have 8 to pick 2 pens of 3 from. The problem is, 2 are not from the same doe. Their body type is a little different, enough for us not to place. If I can get the smallest one up, and the largest one...
