Hi MC,

Is there any way to force a new post when one has made one post and noone has posted in between? (as opposed to the new information simply being added to the last post)

MC is pretty much tied up at present, so you're stuck with me. ;) Why do you feel you need this? if you are posting on the same topic, an add-on makes sense. If you're changing the subject you have the option to start a new thread.

Ther are a coupel of reasons, the first being that you have added information there is no indication to anyone that another post has been made if they are skimming through. All I am asking is if there is a way.... Is there no answer to that?

I'm sure there is an answer, Frank, but you are talking to Maggie The Technopeasant at the moment, so you really can't expect me to know what that answer might be.

I always seem to find your added-onto posts, so I'm pretty sure they show up as an unread post, with the later date/time displayed. You probably can't see the "unread" marker because you wrote it.

I will look into this further, so please have a little patience.

Sorry Maggie, after re-reading my last post I realize that is sounded somewhat "short"

I guess you took my question as a complaint, and it is not, just a question. There are some basics I would like to post, that would be all in one place, so that if anyone was interested they would not have to search a bunch to find them. A "sticky" is one way of doing that, but then, if it gets oveloaded or out of date, then it just stays at the top clogging up things. I was looking for a way to post on differenc facets of husbandry, all in one place, where they could be edited if needed as new information comes in. There tends to be a certain number of questions that get continuously repeated (much like those about green forage feeding) where it would be helpful for you to refer to a body of information you have posted without the reader having to wade through a bunch of comments. If would be almost imposssible for you to adress each one completely, time after time, along with directions on how to go slow, and specific examples, and would sure beat searching though different old threads (often without knowing exactly the right search words) Sort of "this is my experience, take it for what it's worth)

It seems that there a a couple of different types of threads. Some are light and socialy informational; "hey, look at my new litter, I never expected to get a tricolor". There are others that are searching for specific informational; "does anyone know where I can get Morgan brand feeders" and lastly, ther are those such as; "directions for changing your rabbits over from pellets to a non peleted diet". There may be more, but some are temporary and more of a neighborly chat, that won't be important next month, and others need to be always found in a certain place (if one is looking for them) and are more permanent. Should have explained this all better, earlier, and I am not so sure I am doing a good job now. If I decide, to change my rabbits to a non pellet diet, I would like to go to one thread such as "Maggie's non-pelleted diet" and be able to found all your information in one place, no matter if you last updated it yesterday, or if it were 100 pages back.

Given that information, can't you just make topics that are specific.
aka...topic one: Feeders: types, pros and cons. Topic two - Feeders: how to build your own
Or even different areas for one topic such as Nestboxes: what can be used? Nestboxes: build your own Nestboxes: is a scrape bar necessary to save kits?

Then people can keep adding to that in a specific area within an area. Make sense?

Would then just be a matter of finding a specific way to label a topic.

I do realize we need a way to handle basic rabbit information on a variety of subjects and particularly the questions that pop up again and again. We are looking into various solutions including a FAQ forum and a WIKI format. This is going to take a little time. I don't want to rush into something and then find there was a better way of handling it. So just sit tight for now, 'k? :D

As far as the edited/added onto posts, they do show up as UNREAD for everyone except the author. David and I tested it. Hope this reassures you, Frank, that people will see your add-on posts.

Thanks Maggie.

I agree that some time should be taken so things don't need to be undone latter. Most of my information, could not be placed in a FAQ, becuase it is my opinion, based on years of experience, but still only reflecting my methods. It is certainly not the only way, and it may not even be a "good" way in some situations. I am not in a hurry, and my question was based on how we could do this within the existing frame, without other changes being required. It was never my intention to "change" the forum, I simply wanted to know if there currently was a way to place varied pieces of information in a logical way, within the context of one thread.

We're still looking at this, and examining the possibility of adding a wiki to the site, which would be integrated with the forum. We're not 100% decided on this yet, but it would be an awesome way to organize this kind of information, and present it as a collaborative community tool where people can still have some space for "their" stuff, their way of doing things etc., while organizing it in an easy to navigate, hierarchical system.

We'll discuss this more soon.
