So, as we are going to be stuck in Florida until my youngest son turns 18 (say hello to the Florida 50-mile rule  ) I have been getting a few buns to keep me sane.

Picking up this one on Sat - the second castor senior buck pictured - https://ocala.craigslist.org/grd/d/stan ... 71617.html

He is my hope of finally getting the senior does bred as they keep attacking the junior buck I already have.

With the booted tricolor buck (very junior) that I am picking up Thursday that brings my final list to....

Senior does - blue and broken red
Senior buck - castor
Junior does - harlequin and broken black and broken red
Junior bucks - red and booted tricolor

All Rex as that is what I loves bestest of all. :D

The junior red buck and the junior broken red doe will most likely be sold on as my space is tight and come spring will be tighter so 6 is the number I am aiming for, still, 8 is a good number too.

nice rabbits, and I do like Rex...
I am kind of in limbo... as far as rabbits go..
If my sister buys a place near me-- we plan to raise standard Rex, [a white line , and a black line ]... she is good at making clothing [and maybe some quilts]...... Right now, I am still looking for a place to buy or rent that is out of town, and has a few acres... I won't get any more rabbits, or breed until I figure all that out. I may keep my meat-mutt doe, even if I do get some Rex...

Limbo is where I have lived for almost 3 years now so even though we didn't get what we wanted, at least we have somehting solid to work with now.

Rex rock, I loooooove them. :D

Hope you get out of limbo soon M4G, never much fun in the hallway.

Of course I'm partial to Rex as well... and I really like that castor buck's face, GBov!

Bummer about things not going to plan, but I'm glad you're making the most of it! And I can't wait to see pictures of your complete herd when you're all set up with them. Especially that booted tri buckling... :in_love:

Good looking boy there GBov!! Love the broken doe...you should get her too. :p
Sorry things didn't go the way you hoped for.

First picture? Broken black doe? Picking her up Sat. as well. Of course, I will now have one rabbit MORE than I have cages for but when has that EVER stopped me?

And he has a loooooovely face, doesn't he Nymphadora? :D

Thank you for your kind words on our epic loss. But there comes a time to stop fighting and with a judge dead set against you, yeh, that would be the time. So now the bun herd will be good and we will move back to the coast so the kids are back in better schools, rent this house out until it doesn't cost to sell it and just kick back for the next 5 years. That really is going to feel strange.  <br /><br /> __________ Sun Jan 27, 2019 8:57 pm __________ <br /><br /> Day 31 and still no kits! I HATE WAITING!!!

Me too! I'm throwing in a nest box for two of my girls this week... and the anticipation is already gnawing at me! :p

So far, nothing. I am beginning to lose all hope. :( We are on day 34, 33 and 32 for my three does.

And I was so happy to get the buck going but perhaps he is a dud. Who knows at this point, I saw him mount properly so he did that part right.

Aww, I'm sorry GBov. I'll keep my fingers crossed, maybe they're just holding onto them a little longer because it's cold?

I wouldn't have minded one out of three. :(

Ah well, shall see if next time is the charm, the mantra that keeps us living longer.

River Song - broken red - was bred on the 3rd
Hippy is in with Full Monty now and has been for 5 days so even though I have only seen her evade him, after 5 more days I will take her out and put Vortex in with him.

Have been working on my cages, bigger doors and baby saver wire and I got the BEST find on the road, a huge wire cage that I will rebuild into a 4 ft by 4 ft buck cage which will let me rotate the does with Monty, three weeks each. I will build a smaller inner cage in one corner with its own door to feed them in which will let me catch the does to move them back into their own cage when its time.

Save me trying to catch them in that kind of space. It would be funny to watch me crawl into the cage after them but I can do without providing that kind of entertainment in the Fish Camp once we move.

__________ Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:20 pm __________

How did it go Nymph? Did you get babies?

Guess what we got today?

BABIES!!!! WHOOOOOHOOOOOOOO and hip hip hooray!

Taz the blue opal plus Monty the castor produced 5 lovely kits and so far so good.

River Song failed again so is back in the new cage I built this week, 3ft by 5ft top entry cage where she will live with him for the next bloody MONTH and see if she can manage to produce anything.

Waiting to see if Vortex gives us a litter, should know in a week or so but it is hard keeping track with a window instead of a due date.

My harli and tri pair turned out to both be bucks  and the three younger does are months away from being ready so all my hopes are still on three does and one buck.

Yay for babies! <br /><br /> __________ Mon Mar 18, 2019 11:37 am __________ <br /><br /> Vortex and Monty produced a small litter today, only three but all of them look very nicely marked so am THRILLED!!!

Two litters out of three does, not bad really for older does who have not bred in a goodly long time and a new buck.

To avoid this with our junior bucks and does I have combined three big back to back cages into one maze where Rawlzay (sp? My daughter named him  ) and May now live together and the big 4ft by 4ft with lots of duck into and around items now has Abis, Indira, and Bea living in it. They are all still running and jumping round and in and over and under and through, I am exhausted just watching them but no aggression so am thrilled with how that is going.

The does are all still about 10 to 16 weeks away from breeding age but the bucks are ready now so, if I keep a close eye on them all, they should start producing easily and be comfortable with each other.

One by one I am making stand-alone livestock panel cages which will have bunker type nest boxes attached. Not quite colony but not quite cage living either. Sort of the best of both I hope and should produce just fine for us.

With three bucks to six does, I can rotate the boys through the girls pens and hopefully have three litters on the ground and three freshly bred does at all times. Will see how it goes.

We did get 1 set of babies back in February, but more importantly I have 2 litters due today! No idea if one of the does took, but we're crossing our fingers here! :D

And I really like the idea of your new pen solution... if you have time to take a picture, mind sharing?

Rawlsay, Bea and Indira. They live in the 4 ft by 4 ft cage rebuilt from a huge thrown away cage I picked up last month.

This is a better one of the buck and gives a better idea as to the size of the cage.

This new phone camera seems to take videos as often as it does pictures so the best ones I thought I had of the girls with him are little clips instead of lovely pictures. One step at a time, today posting pictures, tomorrow perhaps videos or even, the World mwahahahaaaa!

The world might be the easier of the two!

Shows their space a bit as well, they have three large cages cut with doors that they run through like a maze. The stand is an old trampoline, repurposed. They are my new favorite stand, they hold together with no effort and are solid and yet stay nice and clean and are easy to clean up the mulch from underneath. And they show up for free on CL, how great is that!

This is Monty and Vortex in the hog pen panel cage. The floor is a foot off the ground, made with half inch by one inch 16 gauge wire with one bit of metal pipe (chain link fence pole, I think) to reinforce it. Over the top perhaps but I like things solid.

The sides are wrapped in inch by two inch cage wire and as the j-clips were too small for the job and I had no c-rings, I stitched the entire thing together with hot wire wire I scrounged from the derelict house next door.

The next one will be made with c-rings, it will be MUCH faster!

The next time I have a proper covered area for my cages - instead of sheet metal and styrofoam - I will put a wire door on but for now, the styrofoam lid is working fine. Well, it would be a heck of a tricky escape, some bunnies would manage it but not my big fat slugs.

Cavity blocks are not as easy as Lego bricks to work with. I am working on the best arrangement for the bunker and have not yet gotten it. And, as I will have to cut out one bar of the heavy bit of the cage, that will have to wait until it is perfect to be finished. <br /><br /> __________ Mon Mar 25, 2019 11:24 am __________ <br /><br />

Last but not least, River Song! She is the only bunny left in a smaller cage. Two 2x2 cages attached end to end and a door cut through. So it isn't too bad, 2ft by 4ft but it looks tiny now to me. She is on chance two out of three on the kit front. And of them all, she is the one I want most to breed. Of course.

The truly weird thing is I can see the pictures. <br /><br /> __________ Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:18 am __________ <br /><br />

I have to resize my pictures with my "paint program" to be able to post them at RT...

I just need to resize my brain, I think. Homer put them in for me here post327948.html#p327948 so at least they are up (yay thank you Homer!) but seriously, posting pictures is harder than it needs to be.
