Old way...
add some wood ash to some water,[2 hand full / gallon of water] put the hide in the water stir, and push the hide down into the water 2x/day.-- after 3 days start checking to see if the hair will slide off with firm pressure, -- when the hair will slip, take the hide out and scrape the hair off. Then rinse the hide in fresh water, and tan however you wish ... be warned.. the water/ash mixture will start stinking about the time the hide is ready to dehair...

I once forgot two rabbit hides in the fridge and after about a week or ten days, cant remember now, the fur just fell right off. And no bad smell from the hide. I remember they turned into very nice leather but then the dogs got them and they became dog snacks.
