enlarged kidneys

Post Number:#1  Unread postby ladysown » Fri Feb 08, 2019 1:43 pm

Okay, so I had this young rabbit, a daughter off a mother/son breeding. She was a picky eater, but otherwise seemed fine. She wasn't picking up so I culled her. Teeth were fine, digestive system emptier then normal but otherwise appeared normal. but her kidneys were significantly larger than normal. The rest of the organs appeared fine. What causes enlarged kidneys?

I should clarify... picky eater in that she loved mixed grains and hay, picked at her pellets. Ate about 1/4 the normal amount of pellets for a kit her age. She just turned three months. If I took away mixed grains and hay it did not change the amount of pellets she ate. Just made her thin.

If they were just big.. got no clue,
-- but if they looked swollen, it could be "obstruction" of the urinary tract, or overly small size tubes leading from kidney to bladder..
meat-mutt rabbits, a few laying hens.

well... if it's too small tubes, can't see that fine of detail.

I didn't see stones in the kidney, so there's that.

Be nice to know so I know what steps forward I can take....
