Not Exactly Hopping Mad, But Hopping Sad

Post Number:#1  Unread postby OldEnglishSilvers88 » Sun Jul 16, 2017 1:02 am

My Silver Fox doe had her second litter of 7 kits on July 11, 2017. 4 blue silvereds and 3 black silvereds. 2 blue silvereds were born dead, the same day I lose a black silvered, next day I lose a blue silvered and a 2 black silvereds, yesterday I lose the last black silvered. All were reserved. Damn. This doe lost her first litter in March 15, 2017 because of them freezing to death. :(

This litter was of course, by my show winning buck.

Did she build a nest for them? Was she feeding them?

I'm so sorry you lost them all. Do you have any idea why this happened?

Yes. She built a nest and pulled a lot of fur. No, she did not feed them. All the kits were tiny, some barely hit 1 oz. They all died over the course of 4 days. :(

Sorry to hear this happened. For next time (and that's completely up to you as to how you move forward), I would give her one more chance and do assisted feeding. I would put her on my lap with the babies between my legs to get them going and see if this triggers her natural instincts. I would do this for a few days, and actually remove the kits from her just putting them together for feedings. I really hope things start going better for you:)
