Not mad but oh...hubby laughed

Post Number:#1  Unread postby ladysown » Wed Oct 05, 2016 10:02 am

So I have jewel, healthy except for injured back so doesn't hop right.

Thought I'd try to pet home her.

Had a rescue respond to my for sale ad, all sweetness about how they'd love to take her in.
So we talked.

Then they revealed that they would like ME to pay them to take her, for a cool $150.

Thing is... I have worked with rescues. If they work with a good vet, a spay/neuter doesn't cost that much. Working with the university they often help rescues for free as they are great practice animals for their students as hmm... one of my friends works at the University as a vet and told me so.

So hubby laughed and I told them they were rather uncool.

:rotfl:

:P Hahaha! That's priceless! I almost would've been understanding if they offered to take the bunny if you couldn't find someone. But that's just ridiculous!

i know.

Have to admit though, the response when I said that was rather uncool, was to tell me they'd take her anyways if I couldn't afford to do so.

So Jewel might be getting excellent vet care that I can't afford to give her. Might take a month, but hopefully! :)

Though if she deteriorates in any way I'll be quietly euthanizing her...but she's been holding steady for four months, don't anticipate any issues.

I'll cross my fingers for Jewel to find a very good family, then, or to hold out for the free vet visits :)

The rescues all charge here. Usually closer to $50 though. They also won't list them on their sites unless neutered. The freaking pet store even tried to tell me I had to pay them $10 to take young netherland dwarf. You are selling them for $40 or if too old for your pen they sell them with a big plastic bottom cage that is marked up instead of down. Why do I have to pay? I asked another store if they were interested in excess gerbils and got cornered by an abrasive woman who demanded I tell her a price right then and there and when I didn't she said we were bad sellers. What happened to the small local stores nicely taking in a few extra young animals you can't home or use as breeders for a little store credit? Is it just because I was a kid then? I don't know but I gave up. It's not like going through a pet store is ideal anyway. I'd rather humanely put them down and contact the snake group.

woot woot... Jewel is off to a new home. She's moving to a place with a fully carpeted room underlaid with tarps and pee pads, she'll be vetted in a week and the lady from the rescue was super kind. She comes from a farming background and understands some animals get euthanized, but more can be saved than what people think. She gave me lots of good information about what animals can be worked with.
