Flaky skin on very young kits?

I have a litter of 4 kits who are 3 days old. Today I noticed that all of them have flaky skin. The mother has no symptoms of mites, so I hope it's not that. It was very hot and dry yesterday, could that be the cause? It's hard to see in the pictures, but they have little flakes all over their skin.

Hot and dry can cause it, but it can also be a bit of afterbirth left that's flaking off. I usually only see that in not so furry kits though.
