Updated Setup - Pictures!

Post Number:#1  Unread postby ozemba » Fri May 13, 2016 7:24 pm

Alright. It's been a while since I've been on... a month or so. Thought I'd let everyone know what I was up to.
Since classes are over for the spring I've been working pretty much solely on rabbit stuff all week, I have sooooo much spare time now. I built up a frame for the hanging cages, I've had them hung on chains from the rafters but it wasn't working out the way I wanted it to, plus I didn't have a good way of setting up a poop chute under them. I also cleared out a lot of stuff, mostly furniture that has been sitting out there for years, moved it farther back into the garage to make room for bunnies.

Totals for setup: 4- 2x4x6, 2- 1x4x2, 2- 2x3x8, 2- 1x2x10s cut to fit (cross braces), corrugated plastic sheet 8x4 $15, 2- 1/2"x10' galvanized conduit $3.50 each, 10' plastic gutter $4. I was lucky that I had the lumber all on hand, so my total cost for the project was really only about $25, 4 hours, and my sanity.

Now, pictures!

Oh yeah, and the white tote with the faucet poking out of it will be my auto waterer reservoir... as soon as I can get it to stop leaking ... :|

Looks like nice! You gave me some ideas using the conduit.

I actually got my idea for the conduit from one of grumpy's old pictures of his setup. He still hung the cages, not on frames like mine.

That looks good!

May I offer one tiny piece of advice from personal experience? The rabbits jumping around can dislodge that piece of conduit from where it sits in its hole (been there, done that). My hubby ended up cutting the other end of conduit (the long end) to where it is flush with the outside of the frame, and he took a piece of scrap wood, cut it down to make a little square, and screwed it to the outside of the frame covering the other end of conduit, so it cannot move unless we want it to.

And yeah, bunny pics??

I love the corrugated plastic and gutter setup you have. That's my favorite part of the really nice setup you have.

Another update: My hand will never forgive me for cutting so much wire. I built an 8' four hole run to hang from my new frame. It is a thing of beauty. My hand quit on me before I managed the last two doors.

I let the kids check it out...

The tag is a countertop laminate sample card, I got mine from Home Depot but you could find them anywhere home improvement-y. It is 5"x3.5" plenty of room to write stuff. I might try dry-erase but for now I've used sharpie.

I can see where you are coming from, but with the new 4 hole run, there's hardly any wiggle room for the cage itself, let alone the conduit. I had to fight it to get the cage onto the conduit. I also did end up, not cutting, but bending the extra length of conduit so it is flat against the frame, nothing to bump my head on, and if it does seem like a problem I can fasten it somehow.
