Have been saving up my tea leaves and am thinking of using them to try a tanning idea I had.
Take two cups of tea leaves and pour boiling water over them, just enough to make a strong slurry. Spread slurry over the skin side of a dried rabbit hide. Let soak in, leaving the leaves on, covered to keep them from drying out, for a day or two.
Then Neets foot oil and working dry and then smoking.
My question is, would a hide done this way dry flexible if it gets wet?
With three kids, no mater how hard I try to protect my done hides, they always seem to get thing spilled on them. Just the other day I found two of them wrapped neatly round a stuffed animal, "put to bed" on a window that ALWAYS gets wet at night.
