We've wondered the same thing of peruvian long haired guinea pigs.
We had a half peruvian who did a great job of sweeping the kitchen floor. The only problem was when she got close to delivering she was this huge pear shape covered in hair and she'd get stuck on linoleum floors with her feet skidding and not going anywhere.
I've seen guinea pigs that were actually worse. Their heads look the same as their butts. That was just the best picture I could find quick and either it's head fur has been trimmed or it was bred to not look like a uniform mop with no direction.
I know that Angora rabbits are intended to be used as sources of fiber, but what about the (very!) long-haired guinea pigs? Is their coat suitable for spinning/twisting into cordage of some kind? It sure looks long enough! What a staple!!!
thanks MSD... she is due on Monday and is nesting right now.. so most of that coat will be for the babies.. If she wasn't pregnant.. another month I would of harvest the fibre
