Ok, I am curious. I think one of my other does might be peeing on some 10 day old kits. There is pee on their backs and we saw her in the nest box once. The nest box was completely wet, we had to change it out (which we were gonna anyway before their eys open). We also have 5 week old kits in the colony, so I wonder if they are sleeping in the nest

AND this morning we found the 10 day kits out of the nest and on the bottom level. We have two levels, the top has two nest boxes and the bottom can have one and has the feed and water and the older kits sleep there. The doe in question is possibly pregnant (though she has the 5 week kits, so I doubt it. We did have the buck in with them, but the other doe just had more kits 5 days ago and her other little is 8 weeks old)

What we did is clean out the 10 day old kits nest and moved it to the bottom. Then put a clean nest on top (incase she is trying to claim that one.)

Do you ever have this problem? Everything else is going well. All the kits are fat and happy (including our 5 day old peanut that is actually growing!)

Yep. Peeing in the nest may or may not be normal, but it always seems to happen to some degree. Good job cleaning it up, but I would not be alarmed by the doe doing this as there is nothing in the urine that will hurt the kits unless it stays on them in the nest.

Keep an eye on them and clean as need be. Years ago I had young kits drown or freeze to death by mom constantly using the nest box as a litter box. First time mom's that liked having a potty box as does that I've raised I've never had the issue with. I added another box for just them, problem solved. I don't know about a colony setting though, I don't have mine that way.

If you had a buck with them, and they weren't already pregnant in both horns, they could be pregnant again period or pregnant with split litters. They can get pregnant again almost as soon as they deliver a litter, so unless the timing says they they aren't pregnant (its been over 36-38 days since he was in the colony and no babies still), its a possibility that the does could be with babies. Figure the last possible date for litters from the last day you had the buck in with them.

I am pretty sure if she is pg, it is just a couple of weeks. She had 4 kits, and they were on both sides. The planis to wait until 34 days after lops left. (It has been almost 3 weeks) and we will then do different breedings.

So far this is working ok. They seem to be fine now.
