Hi Folks! I'm Starsider, and I just joined the forum. Been lurking for a little while, I've had a notion about getting into rabbits as meat animals and possibly showing for awhile now. Unfortunately where I live at this time, I don't have the room for any rabbits (and I also own a ferret that is a little too inquisitive for his own good... )

My husband and I will be moving in with some roommates in a new, huge townhouse soon, and that townhouse will have some outdoor space attached to it. I've been thinking about possibly getting some rabbits to show for fun, and possibly breed for meat. I love the Silver Fox breed, and I'm thinking of starting with a trio and going from there. Of course that all depends on what I can get away with in a rented townhouse

But above all you guys have really impressed me with your openness and the fact that all discussions are mature. I've been turned off by most animal forums I go to because frankly...um...how do I say this politely...the Crazy. I really, really dislike the Crazy.

Little more about me: I'm a financial whatsit at a technology firm, and I'm a former farm girl. I moved to the city and I despised every second of it, I can't wait to get back to the country! For now I'm satiating my farmer-girl urge with training and buying a mammoth donkey colt that I hope to train for riding and driving over the next two years. I'm also a creative writer of fantasy, working on about 50 different ideas for stories/novels at once (HOORAY ADHD! LETS RIDE BIKES!), and I'm married to a man who loves technology, but has only just figured out which end of a horse eats the hay ;)

Anyhow, glad to be here, hoping to continue my bunny-education :)

Obviously you haven't seen me and OneAcreFarm when we get going... or you are just too polite to mention it!

Welcome Starsider! Your avatar is really cute.

It sounds like you'll fit right in, and I bet your ferret will love rabbit meat! I work with mammoth donkeys- kind of- I inseminate mares to make mules, and jennies to make more donkeys!

I just took my Rex to our first rabbit show, and it was great fun. I met a lot of nice people, too.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the group! Nothing wrong with ADHD, in fact I myself have....oooh look! squirrels!...LOL! Seriously, you came to the right place to learn. I love this group and have learned so much from so many helpful, supportive people I have met. I even met a long lost "Sister" here....:)

Thanks for the welcome! I'm excited because apparently next year, the ARBA National Convention is going to be right around the corner from where I work (PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA). I'm vainly searching around for some rabbit shows to attend to get a feel for what goes on!

And that's AWESOME!!! Well, not the insemination part  but working with mammoths! It's so rare to meet anyone that even knows what they are, especially because everyone knows about the miniature donkeys. My donkey's breeder looks at the AMDS magazine and goes "They're like little RATS, they're EVERYWHERE!!!"
