I recently built a duplex top loading grow out cage but struggled to come up with a good simple raccoon proof latch. After pondering the conundrum for a couple days I came up with this:

The notched end twists into the wire and then it hangs over the front of the cage.

There is just enough flex in the wire cage and the latch itself to catch a rung of the wire one below the resting position of the catch.

This alone holds the door quite snugly but you can go one step further and push the catch up snug against the cage to lock it in even tighter.

What do you guys think? With the aluminum angle riveted around the cage's opening and the doors it seems quite impenetrable with this catch holding it at the middle. At most the door has about 1/4 inch give at the corners. I'm contemplating using a pair of these per door, just to feel better about the raccoons skulking around.
