Queenpup and I made a new playpen for the bunnies today! I had a piece of corrugated roofing that had been wind damaged which I salvaged and used as a urine and chew barrier for our shed wall, some leftover pieces of pressboard that are slightly warped, and a piece of stall mat to prevent digging, and an exercise pen and top that was for my Danes when I was showing. We cleared out the stuff behind one of our sheds, and made a permanent play area for the buns!

This is an exercise area- I raise in cages only right now. I hope to have several runs available for play time for different groups to play simultaneously, but this is the only run I have made so far.

That looks awesome!!! Lots of things to climb on and chew. Very cool!

Question, do they ever try to climb/jump out??? I've considered making a large pen to let my buns bop around in from time to time but I worry they'll climb out when I'm not looking. :)

I only plan on using this area for exercise, so the buns will probably only be in there for a couple of hours at a time before being switched out with another group- I hope they wont get bored enough to try to scale the walls. I also hope to be in the same general area when the rabbits are in the ex-pen... they are in the same yard as our vegi garden, chicken coop, etc., so I should be able to monitor them when they are out.

Looks great! It's inspiring me to get my colony cleaned out and filled with toys. :)

Thanks for your comments, everybody! It is a work in progress- I think I may move my scale and grooming basket to that wall so after their routine maintenance I can set them down to play. On the other hand, I am considering getting a couple of larger cages for does and litters, and I could put those on the wall. Choices, choices! Now if only I can get Hubs to build a little roof over the area... :)

Yes! I was telling Queenpup that we would have to scoop up all the bedding when rain or snow is forecast so they'd have dry bedding once the weather passes! I'm not too worried about the underlying boards being damp, but wet shavings doesn't sound like a good idea.

Sorry if I'm a little late on htis post, but WOW... What a great play area! I am totally going to make one of my own for my rabbits. I have my rabbit shed right next to the deck of my house and I'm thinking I might use the deck posts to fence off a nice square of play area. The space already has some pea gravel down (I don't think wood shavings would be fun wet) and I can just fill in a little bit with some hay. Thanks for posting great pictures!
