Have two does due on November 5. one polish, one harlequin.
Caged side by side.

Both interested in their nestboxes.
Both haven't made their nests, both have pulled tiny bits of fur.

Found directly between their cages, in the gutter, one piece of what looks to be afterbirth.

No blood.
No discharge from either.
Both looking exactly like they did yesterday.
No babies.

From whom did it come?

How might I tell?

I have no idea how you could tell, though you might see
a bit of blood on the culprits bottom.
They may be making a game of it since they are caged so close together.
I would place the nestbox as close as possible to where you made your discovery.
Fill it wih grass-hay and give them some time. They may have
a surprise for you within a few days.
Sometimes Does will deliver early and some will deliver late.
They may be preparing for an early delivery.

You may never know for sure. I would imagine, though, that you may be able to piece things together by how they do when kindling day arrives. If not, and both kindle normally... well, does it really matter?

very true Maggie, I just found it very odd...

Mind, if I hadn't seen anything then I wouldn't be wondering anywhere and would just have my normal expectation of kits to be born.
