Problem with hind end or leg? Wry neck? Dangerous disease!

There is no need to put your rabbits down. This isn't uncommon for free ranging rabbits to get . Treat them per this thread. 100% curable. My rabbits treated never came down with it again. Won't truly go away on its own, will resurface.

    Logos/Artwork... super cheap!

Well, I can understand school making one busy. I wish she'd respond. I LOVE the initial sketch she drew. I am sad I asked for changes or I would have gotten it by now perhaps! I don't even care if they are still on sale or not - would love the logo so I can make some business cards before the...

Anyone claim your rabbits as a Farm with IRS?

Doing my 2012 taxes, started looking at the Hobby expenses, and discovering all about "Farms". Wondering if anyone here claims their rabbit farms as "Hobby" or files Schedule F. I am wondering what I'm stepping into if I file as a Farm (Sched F). I already have two Schedule C's, and am tempted...

Tails on the hide? Tan feet?

This is very cool - thank you. :goodpost: I hated tossing all those feet, from so many bunnies - especially since they are beautiful blue feet. Same reason I want to keep their beautiful blue fur, even if they are tender- skinned. Thanks all! I will try this!! This forum rocks! :pinkbunny:

Tails on the hide? Tan feet?

You going to toss those feet in with the hides? That's how I ended up with a rotting mess in my laundry room, and dang did it stink. I had about 5 sets of feet in with their hides. It didn't work out. Love to hear your experience! I think I'll try the borax solution mentioned above, or a real...

Tails on the hide? Tan feet?

Have you tried this method with rabbit? I have a hard time imagining getting two pencils in between skin and bone... but will try next batch. That would preserve it? that's a little bit wild... but worth a shot. Your other suggestion of skinning off the feet and toes sounds like a tremendous...

What's all this business about stretching?

OMG that is pricey isn't it! unless I have 100+... which I will, eventually. And then it really adds up. And you are in N. Carolina - I can only imagine California prices may be double. I will call around, thank you for the suggestions - sometimes things just aren't obvious ;) I did try...

What's all this business about stretching?

Is it expensive? I called the local taxidermist, he gave me the contact info to direct ship to the tannery. Said it wasn't worth his time to handle rabbit hides. I can't call them he said I have to just ship it in or else they'll ask for my taxidermy id # ;) So I really have no idea what I'm...

What's all this business about stretching?

so you are saying this is important even if the hide will be re-dunked into a solution. I better get those hides out of the oven... what do you stretch them with? do you stretch when drying from an alum/salt mixture, anyone?

Hides won't dry in moist weather - HELP!

Thanks Nyctra - well I'm not planning to alum tan these because of the labor involved to make them soft - I just don't have time. I thought I'd make things easier for myself to just pay for a nice tan job at a tannery. Not working out too good so far. I may plop Batch #3 into the freezer. I...

Tails on the hide? Tan feet?

Wondering if anyone has successfully tanned leaving the tails on the hide? If so, how? I just love the tails. I have tried unsuccessfully many times to try to cut the bone out - slitting down the underside of the tail - I can often get about half out before the tip half of the fur comes off with...

What's all this business about stretching?

OK maybe I've really messed up here. Reading all your posts, everyone mentions stretching. Why stretch? I thought the point of salting was just to take the moisture out until it was time to tan. Dunking it in a chemical solution would get it all wet again - eliminating any stretching...
