Hay - Where to Buy It?

I seeded Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue in an area and then spread a few bales of wheat straw to hold the seeds in place until it sprouted. I fertilized the area with the litter under the cages and (in a very short time) I now have inadvertently started a nice patch for cutting or haying. I'm also...

    1st time deboning

The flavor of rabbit doesn't change as they age (IMHO), only the tenderness, so I use them in any recipe that calls for ground meat. This is one of my favorites that I originally made with chicken: For two good size patties, eight ounces of raw de-boned rabbit meat, a small handful of cilantro...

Why do my kits keep dying?

Are these rabbits in separate cages or a colony? If in a colony, separate them. If in separate cages, I would suspect the feed. Check it closely for mold. Although you would think it would effect the does too if it was the feed?? This is a mystery.

    1st time deboning

I don't usually cook whole rabbit because my husband dislikes eating around all the tiny bones. I use a really sharp boning knife and debone most of my meaties. I grind the meat up in my food processor and use it to make fried or grilled patties for burgers, breakfast sausage, chile, tacos, etc...

    @#$&@$!! RATS!!! Rat proofing project.

What a nice structure! Clean, neat and tidy with no place for rats to hide. I'm so sorry you're having such a problem with them.

    @#$&@$!! RATS!!! Rat proofing project.

I made wooden nest boxes with 1/4 inch hardware cloth on the bottom, and I put a layer of straw on the bottom. I call them nest boxes but even my buck has one. None seem to pee in them although I do find the occasional poop. I leave them in all the time, occasionally refresh the straw, and clean...

Keeping rabbits cool in extreme heat

We have our rabbit cages in a hoop-house under mature oak trees. It is protected from the North by a six foot privacy fence. The doors are on the East and West sides and the fence funnels the summer breeze right thru the doors. In the summer I put 12"X18" ceramic tiles in the cages with a frozen...

best dog breeds for rabbit people

Taking him in the rabbit house with me. Talking calm. Holding a bun on my lap and letting him sniff it. He showed aggression no matter what I did. He is extremely intelligent but also a very possessive, territorial dog. At three months old he chased the mailman. At four months old he was...

best dog breeds for rabbit people

My LGD was 3 months old when we got him and raised with the rabbits. He does think they are his. His dinner, that is.

best dog breeds for rabbit people

I've had dogs, big dogs, my whole life and a variety of breeds. I consider myself a "dog person" and pretty good at training. I really think that dogs, like people, are born with different personalities and different degrees of intelligence. You can sometimes train a dog to do something against...

    Grass

I'm in NW Arkansas, also very, very humid and hot summers. However, there is a BUNCH of hay bailing around here so I guess if you do it right it still works. I think part of the trick may be the kind of grass you have and to not cut the grass too short because that would make it more likely to...

    Missed The Mark??

More than one fall-off is a good thing, IF the doe will allow it. Rebreed the next day, IF the doe will allow it. I have one doe that will cry miserably if I put her back in with the buck and she's pregnant. She seems to know, others not so much. Some does will hurt the buck so you really have...

Where can I keep my hutch??

There's not enough ventilation in an enclosed garage. The smell would build up and be horrendous, or your life would be spent cleaning up after them - daily - and then you would end up putting them outside anyway to preserve your sanity. Don't ask me how I know.
