    English vs Velveteen Lops?

Velveteen Lops have passed one presentation and had the working standard published in Domestic Rabbits magazine. Any ARBA show is required to accept vlop entries. They are shown as an exhibition breed, meaning they only compete against each other up to BOB. They are not eligible for BIS...

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

Andromeda is a REW, so it was kind of a mystery. The only think I knew that she carried for sure before the breeding was blue. I'm thinking those lighter colored kits are cream or fawn. One is broken (I think that's the one you're talking about). Then there's that light one with a couple of...

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

Our third and fourth litters of Vlops arrived, and I could not be more excited to see how these little guys turn out! Andromeda had 10 kits. Bonny had 5.

Moving rabbits out of breeding program

I'm curious how you all decide when to move a rabbit out of your breeding program. I'm not talking about culling bucks that aren't producing or poor mothers. I mean proven breeders that you may have kept offspring from. How many litters or how many offspring do you keep before it's redundant to...

    Best Way To Clean Feet?

I'm not sure if this would work for rabbits as I've only done it with dogs, but it makes a big difference. One thing I found that helped with stains on white fur was to make a loose paste (about the consistency of turkey gravy, lol) with a good whitening shampoo and baking soda. Rub it into the...

age buck will be ready for breeding?

I agree with Zass. I do recommend that you start him off with an experienced doe who is ready to breed and doesn't typically get pushy with bucks. In my experience if you put two virgins together it takes longer for them to figure out what to do.

    Question About Rabbit Breed

Yep, velveteen lop. They are up for second presentation today! Very exciting. Any idea where he came from originally? How old is he? Does he have an ear number? Might be able to help you track down his breeder.

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

We have two litters of little velveteen lops. These are our first vlop kits so we're pretty excited. Patience had three kits. I think there's a chestnut, chocolate chestnut and an orange. Callie had eight. One was DOA, and the two blue otters are runts. Hopefully they do alright. We've...

    Update from Whitehaven Woods Rabbitry

Yay! Sounds like you have good stuff happening! We bred our vlops this past weekend, though not to each other. Lo (also known as Sam and Longey Ears, lol. Your blue otter buck's twin brother) was bred to Cali, a tri-color doe. Patience (our black doe/sister to yours) was bred to Rubby, an...

    Dandruff

Don't forget to clean your cages or anything else your rabbit has been in contact with. As I understand it, mites can live away from a host for quite a while. Bleach your cage, replace all the bedding, yada yada yada. If you let your rabbit loose in the house you might consider treating the...

    Satin critique?

Thanks, MSD! Very informative. She has another 2 weeks on quarantine and then I'll have several opportunities to show her in Sept. My daughter is sure smitten with her because she looks just like grandma's cat. LOL.

    Satin critique?

I acquired this satin doe and I'm looking for other people's thoughts on her. I am on the fence about what I want to do with her. since I don't know what people look for in satins I figured I'd ask here. If you guys think it's worth it to take her to a couple of shows I'll do that, but if she...

Our Velveteen Lops settling in - pictures

How sweet! My boyfriend is the HR director at an assisted living/nursing home. I bet his residents would like to see some bunnies too. But if I give him that idea he's likely to just bring Bonny to work with him all the time. He's totally smitten with her and she with him. I keep saying she's...

    Another clue (harmful v-lop genes)

Thanks for sharing all of this, Zass! I wish you didn't have to go through all of that, but as others said, I'm glad that it could happen to someone as thoughtful and honest as yourself. I too am afraid that this might be occurring in other lines and we just aren't hearing about it. I think that...
