Thanks, everyone! You guys have been really helpful. I feel so much more prepared.
PSFAngoras thanks for answering the fresh bedding question. It literally kept me up last night. I've been worried about my little worms! I would add kitchen scraps in there as well but the chickens normally get...
I ordered 1000 Uncle Jim's Red Wigglers. I have my worm pit almost ready (using this model somewhat modified http://www.motherearthnews.com/homestea ... cleContent) but my rabbits are in stackers that have trays under their cages. I have to use either peat moss (least expensive), aspen shavings...
Thanks for all the help and feedback. I will head to the feed store today to pick up an iodine solution (I tried to get vanodine and I guess they aren't selling it in the US anymore).
At what point would you guys cull? First sneeze? White goop? After sleeping on it, I worry that I might be too...
I wasn't sure from the first sneezer but I waited longer for the second to be sure. The second had thick, white nasal discharge with goop on front legs.

__________ Fri Nov 01, 2013 7:21 pm __________

It was never this frothy though.

I have snuffles wiping out my herd and I have been doing a lot of cleaning, hand sanitizing, and culling.
I haven't been able to find any information via google on the life cycle of pasteurella.
Here are the things that I have done. At the first sign of snuffles, I culled the first sneezer...
Ha! I use lime like the powder, not like the juice. That would be pretty spend I'd imagine. It comes in such tiny bottles. I use it outside my barn so I'm not so worried about it getting in their lungs when I use it.
I think I will go with the pine shavings just because of the availability. We...
Thanks for the speedy response! Do you have any suggestions for what I should put in the trays, if anything? I have tried putting nothing in but I found myself cleaning all of the cages every day (the smell was so pungent) and it was very time consuming.
I did a deep clean of the barn that...
I recently freaked out and butchered a decent breeding doe because she had a runny nose. I'm new so not sure if it was allergies or pasteurella but I didn't want to take a chance. A couple breeders I sent a photo to told me it was pasteurella because I'm too clean and didn't give my rabbits'...
Phew. It was most definitely clear. The organic thing was a concern because if I had to give prophylactic antibiotics then they're no longer organic, right? Plus I want a nice, clean environment for them.
Since you mention the dust thing, I just replaced my cedar ground cover so I'm sure that...
I just found one of my rabbits has a runny nose. I am butchering him today. He was not caged with anyone else. All the other rabbits appear clear.
What do I need to do to protect the rest of my herd? I have raised them organically so I would like to stick to organic if possible but I'd like to...
I am setting up a rabbit colony in addition to my caged rabbits and wasn't sure what people do about worms. The area I plan to use is heavily shaded so grass really only grows in 1 corner and chickens have been there in the past (grazed there lightly in the spring as chicks).
Do people use...
