    Keeping flies down while butchering

Try something like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/double-garage-door-screen-68310.html I had two made for my garage and they did an excellent job at keeping flies out.

Is there such a thing as a blue New Zealand?

The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) currently recognizes black, white and red NZ, with black and red also being accepted in the "broken" pattern meaning white with black spots or white with red spots. The blue NZ is in development, but still several years away from being accepted...

Is there such a thing as a blue New Zealand?

There ABSOLUTELY IS such a thing as a blue New Zealand. They used to be accepted by ARBA, but low numbers caused the colour to be dropped from the standard. There has been a COD in the works to re-accept the blue, but it has not passed yet. As with any colour, whether or not the blue breeds...

    What color NZ?

Blue NZ (or black carrying dilute) bred to red can give you opal babies. Still full NZ, just not showable colouring (blue currently isn't showable by ARBA standards either but it's still a purebred NZ).

    NZ pedigree, possible inbreeding, help???

What color is the buck and what color are the does? Mixing red and black (or blue or white) can give you unacceptable colors in the first generation and sometimes second unless you select very carefully. Only white, black, red and broken (spotted black or spotted red) are acceptable for...

    Broken red NZ - finally!

No rabbit photos today, I didn't get to it. I'm trying to get the new chicken coop up and running before it gets too cold. So rabbit update... The broken red doe that I had brought up from the US (that's the second photo in this topic) died of mucoid enteropathy shortly after I got her, so no...

Kit unthrifty.. now sits in waterbowl?

I second the mucoid enteropathy, although clearly it's not from lack of water ;) I've seen this a few times in my rabbitry and ALWAYS the weanlings sit with their front feet in the water. Never had it in kits so young that the whole rabbit fit in the water dish, but when it would pass...

    Question: Emailed Pedigrees?

To complete a *REGISTRATION* application, the person submitting the rabbit (and paperwork) to the registrar must absolutely sign that registration application. I don't think anyone is stating that this signature is not necessary. What is not *NECESSARY* is that the current owner submit the...

    Question: Emailed Pedigrees?

In fact, sending a paper pedigree in with the ARBA registration is a NEW thing. Up till just a couple of years ago, all pedigree information had to be hand copied onto the registration form by the registrar. Bad handwriting being such a common problem, ARBA finally started to accept a paper...

    200 Rabbits Seized

Have you all read this article about the Six Bells raid? http://biggovernment.com/bmccarty/2011/08/11/anonymous-call-to-new-animal-abuse-hotline-leads-to-raid-on-colorado-womans-rabbit-farm/

new rabbit owner would appreciate any information...

There are a number of breeds that come in the "Californian" coloration. If the doe weighs only a few pounds, then she isn't the Californian BREED, just a small pet rabbit in the Californian color and not suitable to breed for meat production.

hanging nestbox on side of the cage?

It's here: http://www.downtherabbithole.ca/nestboxes.html They aren't on the side of the cage, they sit over the open door, but you could easily hang them on the side if you wanted.

    Somebody please take Murphy away....

I don't know if they will "get along", but then all chicken flocks need to establish the pecking order whenever they get new members. The layers should be be big enough to hold their own against all your white rocks and the rocks should be big enough not to get run over. Besides, I'm sure they...

    Somebody please take Murphy away....

Hey Truckinguy! Do you have room for 2 laying hens? I hate to part with any, but 8 is really too many for my pen, so I should move a couple out. Since your chicks turned out to be meat birds, you must still be lacking in home-produced-eggs :)
