    Doe refuses to mate

I've got a new one. One of my does does a barrel roll every time she gets mounted. I've had a lot of rabbits and never seen one do that. I agree with what sheepdog said about holding the shoulders and pulling the skin forward. Only issue is that you need a buck who isn't shy. Mine has no shame!

Six of One, Half Dozen of Another(meat rabbits)

I agree 100% with this statement. I started off with NZ and Californians. They are really hard on feed. When I got Rex rabbits, I was amazed that they were so thrifty on food, but still grew out to a good rate. I have NZ and Calis mixed with Rex now. Getting some great grow out rates while...

    Rabbit Kill Board

Working on revisions tonight. Going to try the V cut this weekend. I wonder what would be easier - pulling down or mounting the board sideways and pulling that way?

    Rabbit Kill Board

No shoulder bruising at all. I removed the head within about two minutes.

    Rabbit Kill Board

I made an alternative to the rabbit wringer today. Just took a 2x6 and cut a U into it. A V would have been better. I tacked it down to a fence post and harvested two rabbits with it. Total cost - $0! http://www.tinyhomesteaders.com

Disappointed in myself, need some encouragement/insight!

I use Mora knives. I've tried others, but none are as good. They don't look like much out of the box, but you can shave with them, they're so sharp! My dad gave me his old Buck skinning knife that he used to skin beavers with when I was a kid. It didn't hold a candle to my $10.00 Mora. I...

Using a Rabbit Wringer, Hopper Popper, etc

For those of you who have used multiple methods (pellet gun, bop on the head, etc.), do you find that they flop around less with the wringer? Anybody ever experience a scream? I'm going to be teaching a class this summer, but I want a good, quiet, non-traumatizing kill, if possible. I know...

What kind of knife should I buy?

Mora of Sweden. You can get one brand new for $14.00. Carbon or stainless. You can shave your legs, face, whatever with it right out of the box. It'll hold an edge, take an edge and for $14.00, once you trash it, you can toss it. I beat the dirt out of mine. Lost it in the river last...

    Help me understand these genetics!

Okay - I have a California/New Zealand doe. She has light Californian markings. I owned her mother and father. Both had pedigrees. I also own her sister and brother. I've had multiple rabbits out of this entire crew and they all have true CA/NZ markings. I have an English Angora buck...

Grow out pen for rabbits out of recycled pallet crate

hahaha.....we have a lady who stops by every saturday and looks through stuff I've put aside. Some people ask me how I can stand working there because it smells. I've broken my nose enough times to that I don't smell much! ;)

Grow out pen for rabbits out of recycled pallet crate

I actually use it as a second income. I sell most of it on eBay/craigslist. The guy at the gate does the same thing with taking requests, but you have to bring him beer. ;)

Grow out pen for rabbits out of recycled pallet crate

Glad you like it. I'm not a builder by any means. Utilizing pallet structures takes the guess work out of it for me. The cool thing about pallet structures is that over time, they really do look rustic/cool.

Grow out pen for rabbits out of recycled pallet crate

I've been looking for a better grow out pen option for my bunnies. I found this pallet crate on the dump where I work and put it to good use. I'm really pretty stoked about the result. Crud. Can't get the pic to post. More details about the build on the blog...
