    Breeding Older Does

I just had the same situation with a four year old. I gave her a lot of time in the excersize pen then got a litter of four and rebred as soon as I seperated them and got six. She burned off some of that fat in the first round and I expect that she'll be back to being a good producer.

How soon do y'all's kits start pellets?

Thanks for the info! I hadn't been breeding with a fast turn around because I had only been keeping them for myself, but I basically had an outlet fall in my lap and more litters means more fun as far as I'm concerned.

    American blue breeder in Manitoba/Canada

Hey, I've got no clue on Canada, but I'm in love with American Blues so if you ever make it to Texas I know several of us just around the Houston area. Good luck!

How soon do y'all's kits start pellets?

I never have thought much about how soon my kits started eating pellets until I noticed my most recent litters starting to crowd the feeder at about a month. It made me wonder if that may speed up how fast I could separate and re-breed.

    American Rabbits (Blue and White)

That's interesting, I may keep a white at some point just to see it. All my whites meet Mr. Food Saver. In my four years I've noticed I get a white or two about every third litter. I haven't tried to nail down what pairings may not produce any at all. I've been considering watching that sort...

    American Rabbits (Blue and White)

I have American Blues and they are quite docile and are good producers. I chose them because I wanted the meat and fur both. But I've only heard of an American Black from someone on Craigslist who couldn't explain the background. If you go look around, the blues were accepted in 1917, and since...

    Breed suggestions

Consider a rare breed. There are many kinds that are forgotten despite many good aspects. I really like my American Blues and they do well even in Houston area heat. It may take a little more doing to get them, but I think it is good to help keep a breed going and all you need to do is sell a...

    Old doe, bad stock?

Thanks for your thoughts. It's always good to hear some other experiences. I think her next round will be with the same buck to see if I get similar results and then a different one after that. The lazy ears just baffle me because even with the previous litters from these two I never had a...

    Old doe, bad stock?

I've heard the theory regarding horses that mares produce their best offspring when they are young and was wondering if anyone has an idea about this same idea in regard to rabbits. I have a doe that is about 5 years old now and her only recent litter (I'd pretty much been out of production for...
