    Mature Doe, no Dewlap.

A couple of my silver fox pull from their sides. Nutmeg will make both sides bald and pink. She's my skinny girl so often looks quite raggedy.but she's a good momma. And a sweety.

    A foray into...goats?

Sounds like a dream. A little jealous here. I used to dream of ducks and goats ( I can't tolerate cows milk) the area we live in used to be hunting cabins and outhouses, but has turned into yuppie ville. Too many rules. They all have big dogs they walk down the road to crap but too many...

Hay - Where to Buy It?

I get hay from a horse farmer. She gives me the edge of field that has weeds and raspberries in it. The rabbits love digging thru for their favorite bits. I use same hay for bedding so pick out stalky parts and put in their yard. First parts they eat. Horse people don't want it but they still...

Butchering Question--Resting the Meat from Rigor Mortis

This has made the process easier on me and the rabbits.

Butchering Question--Resting the Meat from Rigor Mortis

Trick is to tug hard and fast so neck separates. Then it's fast, and easy to cut thru skin.

    Putting rabbits outside

Dana's book on colony raising suggests 20' for does and their kits, 10 for buck. Spaces will function bigger by giving them shelves , things to hide under, in, or on top of. They will cuddle together in a smaller shelter if given free access to a yard and more hiding spaces. Rabbit Warrens set...

    Not new, but returning!

Yes, but I use group housing. Those big waterers may be too big in separate cages. You could try the wide mouth jugs upended in bowl. Would keep them from standing in it. Drill some holes just below cap. Water level in bowl needs to be deep enough to cover holes and stop flow. A small bungee...

Butchering Question--Resting the Meat from Rigor Mortis

I too used a mop handle, but always felt a little clumsy holding a squirming rabbit, getting the bar and my feet in place. Someone here posted a choke chain hanging from a tree branch. I found some sash cord ( that stiff stuff holds it's shape) put it in a nice round loop. Hanging about...

    Not new, but returning!

Those orange cups look like what I ordered to start out because ads said they could be used for both rabbits and quail. Tried screwing onto buckets for colony and covey. Never did get them to stop leaking. Then went to wide mouth gallons with holes drilled near top, flipped upside down into...

    Side Entry Nest Box

7-8", up from bottom about 4-5" . I put a scrap of 2x outside so it's easier for littles to get back in.

    Hello from Kansas City

So funny and honest. Most of us don't admit our animals own us more than we own them. But so worth it. Rabbits have added so much to my life, I love them. Hope you get them home soon! Welcome

Rabbit meat cost , price for sale

When we got our first silver fox, the breeder shared she liked to harvest at 16 weeks for more meat for the effort and still plenty tender This has worked well for me. That extra few weeks makes a huge difference. This pic ( not mine but a great post) illustrated well.

    Chaos

Rabbits are very social when allowed to be. My bucks live with their does and kits. I've noticed even the bucks have favorites, will spend more cuddle time with one. I love seeing a buck and doe sprawled out relaxing, kits crawling over them. Sometimes making little bubbly sounds. I swear...

    Chaos

Maybe try a different buck. Mine live in family groups and control their mating. I had one doe , Cocoa Loco, who wanted nothing to do with the buck I wanted her to live with. Even up on hind legs boxing matches. She used to lay next to a buck in another pen, fence between them . I even watched...
