So here at the pictures. Turns out there are five kits. Two blacks ones, which are normal. Three white ones that are an anomaly. I tried to show the nose and ears of one of the white ones, as there is a light grey coloring.
I guess it will be interesting to see if they turn silver at all...
The father is another Champagne. They havn't open their eyes yet but their markings look like a Californian or a Himalayan. I was under the impression the REW was totally white. Is my impression incorrect?
I'll post some pictures later. I did not want to disturb the mother to much because...
My Champagne doe kindled the other day. All but one of the kits is white. So I am going to guess that one of my Champagnes may not be as pure bred as my pedigrees show.
:D
Well, it looks like she is doing fine now. She is back to making round pellets instead of loose stools. Still a little messy but I think she is recovering.
Today when I was cleaning out the cages I noticed that I had a doe with a case of the runs. She seems to be fine other wise, laying around, not acting to sick, not skinny. She does seem to be straining though. Not to be too descriptive but she hunches up and then you hear a greasy sound...
I have tried raising them for food. I never ate one because in the end I found it to be a pain. I have about half a dozen friends from church who are medical missionaries and they have ate a lot of them. Along with capybara and nutria. They think they taste fine.
I thought they were going to...
Sorry about that, for some reason I thought you were in Caldwell. Must be some one else on the board... Or was that someone else on homesteadtoday forum. :?
pastel,
Have you tried http://www.angelrabbitry.net? He has a lot of good quality mini rexes and he is in Weiser, which is closer to you than Kimberly. He is very knowledgeable and has been raising rabbits for over fifty years.
Just an update. I checked on the kits this morning before I left for work. The fur and hay had been moved around and things were rearranged so the mother has been in the box. It looked like she pulled some more fur also. I did not check to see if she had nursed them as she is very protective...
On top of all my other problems with city code inspectors my wife called me today to say one of my does had given birth and she did not use the nest box. I came home to five kits. One was very small and underdeveloped. I doubt he was alive when he was born. The other four were on the wire...
I got a bag of beet pulp because I have a buck that is a hard keeper (e.g. he is always hovering around his lower weight limit). My wife said that when you feed it to horses you need to soak it first. Is this nessesary for rabbits?
Thanks.
Well, I have moved the rabbits I want to keep but the sad part is I had to loose over half of the rabbits. Some rabbit sitters and some curtains should get me though the worst of it. I am going to clean up the rabbit area and move all the empty cages to an off site location until things blow...
