I live in Norhtwest Illinois and I'm looking for a rabbit that can get along with dogs, cats and be able to go to the barn with me and hang out when I clean stalls so pretty much an all around friend. :)

i would encourage getting a young (aka trainable) LARGE rabbit, and get it spayed/neutered when old enough. big rabbits tend to be calmest and often friendliest, but not always. i'm not in you area, otherwise i would offer a young non-showable satin, although you might want to aim for something even bigger than that. i'm thinking more like flemish giant. definitely nothing hyper or it won't stick around if you leave it unattended while cleaning stalls.

We are in eastern Iowa and I've got a little 5 week old accident kit you can have for free if you can come get it. Although we might be in IL next weekend to pick up a netherland doe. I don't know what gender yet but it's a mini rex x champagne mutt and no one wants to see the little bugger butchered cause it's so cute with a broken pattern and extra dense fuzzy fur from the mini rex side. I would expect it will finish around 6lbs. Very smart. His sire is a bit of a houdini who got in to the champagne colony. Not real friendly yet but it hasn't been caught that much because it's so intelligent about hiding and getting in places we can't reach it out in the colony. It never panics over anything and just outsmarts us and is the only kit to survive the weasel attack. I think it would tame really well, quickly once you get it away from the other rabbits and somewhere it can be handled a lot. The mini rex side goes back to a very easy going, fearless buck who would greet dogs and follow everyone around.

I do suggest neutering if you want a really good pet. Just like cats and dogs they are less likely to develop undesirable behaviors like spraying in the house, humping things, mood swings... They just make calmer, more well behaved pets when altered.
