I can't seem to leave a double space in a post (after a period, before the first word in the next sentance) Do I neeed to use some special keystroke to leave more than one space?

<!--- The way to double space in a forum like this is to put your first space and then after it, then continue. --->

nbsp stands for "non-breaking space". The & and the ; must be in there. It only works if the editor is tooled to recognize that much html, which not all of them are.

Let's see if it works here:
Single space
Double space

__________ Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:18 pm __________

Well, as you can see, it didn't. So I guess I didn't need to put the comment tags on that first line. :)

I don't know of any other way to force it to double space. It gets on my nerves, too. I always type two spaces at the end of a sentence, even though it gives me only one. I don't think it's anything MC can do anything about, though. :(

Two spaces after a period is old school typing format. Today's word processors are programmed to reduce extra spaces at the end of sentences.

I learned how to type on a Remington with blank keys.

Have a good day!

I learned with blank keys too, although I don't remember what make it was.

Hmph! Two spaces after a period old school indeed!

Seriously, though, it does help better define the end of a sentence to have two spaces after it. I don't see them as extra spaces; rather, I see them as very helpful. To me, the two spaces make a paragraph easier to read. I think it's a shame that current online text entry doesn't preserve the second space.

My theory is that, since spaces take up just as much memory space as any other character, the removal of the second space after the end of a sentence was dropped in order to save storage. But I could be wrong. I just don't see any other logical reason to do away with it.

BLANK KEYS??!!?? We weren't allowed to look at our keys in typing class, but they were not blank.

No double spaces? Let's just test this out! There. Now..let's see what it looks like!

eta: FASCINATING! It has 2 spaces in the editor, but it doesn't show up on the screen as 2 spaces!

Frank, it's amazing. hmmm... Must be the ghost in the machine!

OK, I have added a non-breaking space bbcode.

Have fun, just don't try to nest them. So click the button as many times as necessary to insert them, but in between each one you have to move your cursor (click) at the end of the tag. I'll see if I can tweak that to make it a bit more convenient.

Btw... Hiding text in posts by matching the background colour is likely to incur the wrath of MC.
