well, I miss Moggie and Sibley. Peek-A-boo Is not yet here. Sooo, What am I doing? I covered an older wire dog crate with plastic, put thelarger crate pan on top for snow support strength, a carrier inside for added weather protection, and am filling a dish with food twice a day for kitties I seldom see, but they do leave little footprints in the new snow. One Is a big white kitty-very skittish. The others, a black lady kitty, who sometimes looks into my apartment, and her black kitten that has white paws and chest. If anyone else is eating my offerings, I do not know about it, other than suspecting some unknown critter that has burrowed under my little garden boxes (serious earth moving on that critter)

I thnk my rabbits are jealous-- they want to go outside to play! :bunnyhop:

How sweet of you to give those kitties a meal and a place to get out of the weather!

Did you recently lose Moggie and Sibley, or are they vacationing somewhere with Peek-a-boo?

we had a bunch of feral cats disappear over a week near the end of summer-- I think they were 'trapped and removed' by some idiot.

I figure if I can provide a healthier food supply for some of the cats, I can include wormer and such on an occasional basis, Limit the injuries caused by dumpster diving for food, and possibly catch a couple, and get them Spayed/neutered myself, perhaps rehomed to a farm where mousers are needed. I cannot run a 'rescue'- And I abhor the people who have moved and purposely left their animals behind to fend for themselves.

A neighbor was telling me about a "feed through" birth control med for feral cats, but I didn't get the name of it, nor do I know how often it needs to be fed to be effective. Maybe you could contact a cat rescue in the area and see if they could provide it.

We have a new feral cat here and have begun feeding it. Last year we had a white one with black patches but it was killed on the road. :( Now we have a tabby with white tummy kind of cat out there. Makes me mad that people dump their unwanted cats. The cats trust no one, but do accept the helping hand we give them. I sleep better knowing they have full tummies. They even have a sunning spa - a big cushion in the south window of one of our sheds.

My first cat was sort of a rescue. She was dumped on a llama farm behind us and the people who live there gave her to us. Her mother and sister both got hit by cars, and her other 2 brothers were too feral to touch. She died in september of Lymph Node Cancer. I think it is mean how people just leave animals to die sometimes.

My all time favourite cat was a dump-out. They're actually very rare here, as I am in the downtown core, but we think someone who had her as an inside cat in an apartment moved and just tossed her outside. She picked us, took up residence in our shed and hung around for a month while we tried to find her owners. After the month, we just decided to keep her, took her into the vet, had her spayed and got her shots, and now she's an indoor cat. I also got my first ferret by finding him roaming free, and had someone dump two guineas on my door step. So while I hate when people do that, it's resulted in some of my very favourite pets coming into my life, so I can't complain that much.
