I've had to house/dog sit for a neighbor which they adopted dogs from Puerto Rico  What about the dogs that are already here? You know...in the US? This article appealed to me cause I find it as off as adopting children from other nations when there are kids needing homes here. Granted, adoptions can be a pain in the butt but if people actually took action, things might change around here! Food for thought ;)

That is really weird, adopting dogs from other countries when there's no shortage of dogs here...

I don't equate it with the adoption of children, though. There's a very good reason people go more and more for foreign adoptions. It's because the court system here some while back took to taking adopted kids away from their adoptive parents, and placing them back with their "birth" mother or father. The birth mother changes her mind? Give the child back.

Meanwhile, the adoptive parents have had the child for several years, they love the child, and the child loves them. Suddenly, the child has their world ripped away so they can be given to someone they don't even know, in order to fulfill that person's selfish desires. To the adoptive parents, it is state-sanctioned kidnapping, and they have their hearts ripped out.

Foreign adoptions are forever. If they ever get reversed, it's very rare.

Dog rescues also adopt from Puerto Rico, really stupid. Dogs running loose down the street, nah leave them, dogs costing hundreds just to get into the country, ok!

That blog was triggered by a 'rescue' in Illinois IMPORTING a large breed rabbit from Germany---It is all publicity, fundraising, etc-- IF a person wants to support a shelter, do it locally, and forego the 'tug at the heartstrings' type of advertising. KNOW where your money and or material donations are going.
There is NO shortage of animals that need homes in the US, BUT, shelters and rescue do what they can to make some of us look bad-- gee, a U-haul full of dogs travelling from one state to another-- why? because the destination shelter needed adoptable dogs that they could "SELL" for a lot more money. Hw much would I be willing to bet that shelter 'closings' due to illnesses in Florida or along the eastern seaboard are not due to imported dogs that are spreading new diseases-- more than I would bet that the shelter actually has a shortage of animals!!!
