I took a few minutes yesterday and made a short video of our family Rabbitry. Have a look and please feel free to share your thoughts!? Please be kind..lol. I would like to read any criticism good and bad. Just want to be sure I'm doing things right.. I also wanted to take a short video for any newcomers to rabbit raising. I plan to do more on urban homesteading. From composting rabbit and chicken manure to a home made summer watering system that cant go wrong, and everything in between! Enjoy and again please provide feedback! Thanks to all for the help on here since starting last spring! You folks are awesome!

your cages look decently clean, varied set up. Looks basically okay to me.

from an animal control point of view.. you need to do some tidying. Put feed into bins. Just some things looked cluttery. (That said.. I've got some work to do out in my rabbitry as well).

if the brown buck is well tempered I'd keep him and get rid of thumper. If the offspring are going to feed your table he'll work until you find an unrelated buck.

Thanks Ladysown! Like I say I take all advice I can get..The only way to get better. The rabbits do get lots of feed. I give them (each feeder) a scoop and a half twice daily (morning and night)When I give them water .They always seem to gorge themselves on the feed and have hay as well we get green veggie treats from the local independent grocer daily. As you may or may not have noticed, I do use a little cracked corn once or twice a week at night when its cold out. From what I understand the corn helps them keep a little warmer. I know what you mean by cleaning.. this winter hasn't been all that bad , but bad enough where I cant wash cages down without everything freezing. What does everyone do to keep thinks cleaned and washed in the cold months? Again thanks for any help I appreciate it all!

Thump thump needs to go bye-bye! Keep the chest nut one! why does it matter if they are related if the babies are terminal anyway?

Plus, in rabbits, a certain level of line breeding is totally fine as long as you cull heavily and only save the best. Obviously the chestnut one has some factor of different genetics playing out to be the only one a different color. I would much rather breed closely related rabbits than breed the temperament of thumper into the line of rabbits.

I think you're taking an big chance using your family name on the video. You could become a target for AR activists. Your set-up is typical of many backyard rabbitries, but someone with an agenda could find plenty of things to criticize. I didn't have the sound on while I was watching because there is competing noise here at the moment, so I don't know what may have been included in your commentary. But please be careful. These are difficult times for people wanting to raise their own food and in particular their own meat.

wow Maggie, I had never actually thought of that..What a horrible thought. We also run a reputable renovations business from the same address..We wouldn't be that difficult to find with info like that on my video. A big thank-you for the heads up..Sure have to think smart on the net these days.Legacy I have decided to keep Thumper until I have another "proven" male on board. I have the chestnut one that I think I will keep too.. Hopefully he can rule the roost one day soon. As far as breeding that temperament they are all his babies from 2 different does. All have excellent temperament. They handle so nicely. Thumper came from a breeder in a town nearby. He was already 9 months old when I got him. I have a feeling his old home wasn't so nice...Thanks again to all for the pointers and advise..
