Hello from SE Iowa
Hi, I'm just getting started with rabbits and have lots of questions. I've raised guinea pigs before.
I plan on having my outdoor rabbit setup in the spring. The plan is meat rabbits to be more self-sufficient. I might start showing after I get the basics down.

Sounds like a very sensible plan, Margali.

Welcome! Lots of rabbit breeders down your way. You should be able to pick up a nice trio of meat rabbits easily

Re: Hello from SE Iowa
welcome. Good place hear to learn things.
You'll find rabbits are quite different than piggies to raise. Piggies...overall are smarter.
Rabbits have the whole cute factor going for them. Piggies tend to colony much easier as well, they don't seem to get these nasty hierarchies you can get with rabbits (at least I've haven't seen it in mine).
Do you still have piggies?

No, I haven't had any in the last 3 years. I moved and couldn't break up the sibling pair I had with my sister.
They are old ladies now- Patches is a short hair mutt and Smokey has a teddy coat.

Re: Hello from SE Iowa
My husband and I were just commenting on the opposite. Guinea pigs are cute and make cute noises but are nowhere near as smart as the rabbits.
We are by Iowa city and trying to get champagne and creme d'argents established for meat. The d'argents in this area have some issues especially with pregnancies and birthing complications. We are either making a run back up to some wisconsin breeders or meeting at the Dewitt show in March to exchange rabbits. Let me know if you are interested.
