Got our new holland doe

So our new holland has been home all day. She is pretty nervous, shakes when we hold her.

She is pretty skinny. I feel lots of her bones. I gave her some dewormer. Also plan to run a pre treatment for cocci just to be on the safe side. The woman said she just had a litter so that could be why she is skinny. I gave her a tiny bit of BOSS and some oats too.

Her front teeth are perfect. No clue on back teeth.. As far as i know, theres no way to see the back teeth?? (Is there?)

I noticed tho she has white cheesy stuff in her downstairs area. As we were in the car i was all "babe! We never sexed her! Will u look?" Well shes definitely a doe. But when you um expose her stuff, theres white stuff there.
I know there can be discharge due to the scent glands but this is all around the vulva (ugh hate that word but can't think of a dif one to use lol)

I wiped it off, was kinda stuck on some hairs. But i will watch and see if it comes back. But could it just be maybe its normal and i just havent noticed it on my does before? Or maybe she was in dirty conditions? Or it somehow worked its way from her scent glands to there?

Never dealt with vent disease but via google, hers doesnt look at all like the pics. No sores on her face or downstairs. No sores at all!

And yes, she is also in quarantine away from the others in quarantine lol

google is a very helpful but sometimes tricky source of information. Vent disease only causes sores and crusts when it's active. Any of your rabbits could be a carrier without your realising it. I found that every rabbit I took in has been a carrier in my area so every new rabbit gets a treatment. Treatment is easy, just penniciline every 3 days for a 2 weeks period.

Now I see the cheesy stuff, not sure what caused it, and its why I cant tell you if she's a carrier right now. The way to tell is if you see small white "pimples" on the vulva. They're not rly pimples, on a doe they're more like white lines. Sadly I dont have a good picture to show you. If you submit a closer picture with the clean genitals I'll let you know if I see anything.

My concern would be a uterine infection/pyometra

I've had a dog come down with pyometra. And thankfully she had what they consider an open case of it. Definitely different. The "pus" was brown, i thought one of the dogs had diarhrea until i lifted their tails to see what one was dropping the liquid brown dots. (Long story short, emergency spay and she was fine)

But this white stuff on this bunny is thick and creamy.. smegma is how I'd describe it.
Can this be something i can treat if it is VD without a vet visit?

Different species have different puss, rabbits almost always have thick, "yogurt" type puss, cats and dogs usually have yellowish to beige to greenish puss whether it is a superficial skin abcess or a uterine infection.

In this picture it looks superficial rather than a discharge from the vagina or uterus and if so, it is possibly a yeast infection

How do i treat it? I know you can use womens creams for dogs with yeasty ears. Could that work?

When i felt her i immediately knew she was underweight but i wanted to help her. Felt bad for her. Figured a deworming and cocci treatment and wa-la.

as for whatever it is, I'd think a 2 week pennicilin treatment will clear anything if you're concerned

I don't think penicillin is a good idea if it is a yeast infection. If I remember correctly, antibiotics -- and penicillin in particular -- often make the tendency to yeast infections worse.

Yeah i didnt think of that. My mom always got one after antibiotics (over share? lol)

So i think what I'll do is treat her area with an otc yeast cream. And if i suspect anything else i can do an antibiotic. Tho the question still remains, is there an antibiotic i can get without going to the vets?

I have no objections to taking a bunny to the vet but this time of year, my work season is almost over and xmas is around the corner. An exotic vet appointment just to walk in is like 150.

Why is it so hard to find a good rabbit breeder around me? People dont care about them. They just take the money and thats all they care about.

You should be able to buy penicillin under the name Pen-G with Procaine from a feed store. I only once treated a rabbit with an antibiotic and that is what I did. You need syringes with a large needle (I think we used size 20 -- Pen-G is very thick.) You must shake and shake it to mix it before using. It must be stored in the fridge. It is not that expensive . . . I think we paid around $10. When you read the label you will not see its use for rabbits listed, but don't let that stop you.

It used to be that these things were easier to buy in the United States than here in Canada, but with increasing concerns over antibiotic use in livestock, this may be changing. You might want to check this out and see if there are restrictions looming.

I know here in CT they dont allow you to give your own litter of pups their shots.
When I lived in VT it was allowed and could be bought at tractor supply.

So if by chance there are restrictions on it, I'll have to travel my happy butt back home for it.

I've been offering her extra pellets hoping to put some weight on her and very little BOSS so it doesnt upset her belly. She's very skinny. Definitely larger than the standard, we weighed her when we brought her home, 4.4 lbs but once she puts on some weight im guessing she will be 5lbs or over. She definitely has a good appetite. So im hoping in the long run she will be ok. She said the bunny was kept in her 11 y/o daughter's room so maybe the daughter didnt feed her too often?
Or maybe she just lost condition due to the litter she had. I guess the babies died at like 3 weeks old??

The woman said, she bought her and didnt know she was pregnant. Then in person when we got talking she said "when i bred her" so i have no clue on any truth.. caught her in a few discrepancies.. wondering if shes older than what she said. Said she was born in the spring of 2016 but her area looks pretty wrinkled. I heard that happens with age or many litters..

I have lots of time to see how she turns out tho, my buck is only 9 weeks old give or take a day.

Its sad but neglect is common with rabbits, people just dont realise. Just take your time with her, talk to her softly, pet her and be patient. Many of my rabbits were neglected ones with patience I got em to improve. Eva, her owner couldnt even pick her up cause she'd try to kill him. Now I can pick her up and cuddle her all I want, I even made a video with her laying on her back on my lap and letting me tease her even though her open cage was right next to her. Nikita has been a process of several months but she's basically a spoiled plushie now. Curently working on Chipit, he was raised by a little girl but she didnt like him and clearly neglected him, he's so scared and jumpy but a few days ago he's started to come see me to be petted on the head by himself.

Her age doesnt matter as long as she's healthy, worry about feeding her proper and showing her she can be loved
